Leon didn't seem to notice Emma's unease. With a grin, he gave Damien a playful shove. "Took you long enough to visit. What, did you forget about me?"
Damien chuckled. "Had to make a dramatic entrance, didn't I?" His gaze flickered to Emma, and for a moment, something unreadable passed through his eyes. It was brief, so brief that if she hadn't been watching closely, she might have missed it.
Emma swallowed hard. 'Damien didn't remember who he really was. The book had rewritten his story, changed his role. But deep inside, was the same man still lurking?' Her eyes flickered with anxiety while thinking deep in her thoughts.
She forced a polite smile and shook his hand, ignoring the unsettling chill that ran down her spine. "Nice to meet you," she said carefully.
His grip was firm but not overly strong. Just normal. Friendly. Safe.
Yet Emma couldn't shake the feeling that something was wrong.
