TWENTY-EIGHT
Ava stepped between them before things got out of hand.
"Caleb is not a threat, he would not have come all this way just to betray me," she said firmly, glancing at Asher.
"And yet, the last time you trusted someone from your past, Jenkins found us." Asher's dark eyes moved to her side.
"This is different." Ava clenched her jaw.
"Are you sure about that?"
"Yes."
Asher studied her for a long moment before letting out a sharp breath.
"Fine, you can stay," he muttered, turning his eyes back to Caleb.
Ava let out a quiet breath of relief.
"But you follow my rules. You don't leave camp without my permission. You don't interfere in pack business. And if I get any reason to believe you are a threat—" Asher continued, his voice was hard.
"I get it, you will cut my throat out, right?" Caleb interrupted.
"That is the general idea." Asher's lips curled into something that was not really a smile.
