Selen's eyes were round as saucers and I could see Clay's mouth quivering.
Cass followed my gaze and then she seemed to light up with delight. She took a step toward them and gave them a radiant smile, "Hello, little sister," She cooed, "Won't you come out?"
"No," Selen said in a shaky high voice. I could see her tiny hands going white with fear.
Cass pouted in mock upset, "I only want to play... Don't you want to play?"
"No!" Selen shouted back, "I don't want to play with you! Leave us alone!"
I was shocked... Selen had never been so brave, I was certain Licnine twice her age would not have had the courage to talk back to Cass.
I could see Cass was going to lunge for them. Anger boiled over in her eyes and her whole body tensed for the spring like a feral cat. I could imagine the burrowers egging her onward.
"I'm not done with you," I growled at her.
