To her credit, Cass maintained her act all the way through the crowd of Valcox. In fact, she even managed to get a few jabs in when she saw someone doing something wrong.
The only way I could tell that this wasn't the infected Cass was the whiteness of her tight hands on the reigns.
Clay and Selen were getting restless. They wiggled and squirmed in discomfort. I tried to settle them with lullabies and then stories about my time with the Lyrra. But no matter what I did they could not calm themselves.
And I could not blame them for that.
As the day passed we were getting closer and closer to the capital. Some smaller houses started to appear on either side of us and the road got smoother.
Finally, Cass spared us a glance and I could see from her face it was time.
"It is I, Princess Cass! Open the gates!" She yelled.
