Chapter 67) family members could also be involved.

"What mole?" Old Madam Gu frowned as she narrowed her eyes at the leader officer.

"I mean to say, there is someone from inside who let those robbers into the house and help them clear the route of storehouse." Leader officer expressed his analysis.

"But the guards who were guarding the door clearly denied anyone's intrusion that night. They said, they were up all night and never let anyone enter the storehouse." Gu Tianhao said what he had fount out from the guards.

"That's what I'm saying. The guards said; he was up all night and didn't see anyone around the storehouse or entering the storehouse all night. But who can guarantee, those guards are not lying and they are not in cahoots with those robbers?" Leader officers expressed his suspicion.

"Yes. We never thought about this fact." Madam Yun exclaimed loudly.

"And those servants too who were responsible for cleaning in day. There were so many things in the storehouse and two Madam's private vaults, not less than two dozen carriages, would be needed to carry all the treasures and grains from the Residence. It's impossible to load two dozen carriages of goods in one night without making noise or without coming under anyone's eyes." The leader further explained the situation.

"So you mean to say, there are people inside the Residence who are cahoots with those robbers from that night and cover for the under the dark night while they moved goofs from the storehouse and two Madam's private vaults?" Old Madam Gu hardened her eyes as she asked. Her gaze sharpening at the thought that there could be spies who helped outsiders to clean her silvers while under her nose.

Her gaze as sharp as sword, drew across the yard.

"Yes Old Madam Gu. Not only Guards and cleaning but there are chances that-" leader officer paused as he peeked at old Madam's face.

"That?" Seeing the leader hesitating to continue, old Madam Gu pressed him where he left his words.

"That- that may be.." leader officer again trailed off.

"Please, finish in one go officer. We don't have all day to hear your stuttering." Old Madam Gu sternly asked leader officer to continue.

"There are chances that not only these guards and servants in your Residence but the family members could also be involved." Leader officer took a look at old Madam Gu and seeing her face darkening at unimaginable speed he hastily added "These are just my suspicion, I'm not sure about it. And there is no evidence about their collaboration." Leader officer paused.

"It's just, so many goods have been disappeared without any trace and there is no one who saw it. According to the guards at door; no one entered the Gu Residence that certain night. According to the cleaning servants; the goods were there in day time. And what we have found from the guards at street; they hadn't seen so many carriages leaving the street that night.

Old Madam, I hope you understand what I'm trying to say." Leader officer almost pleaded with his eyes.

"I understand. You continue." Old Madam Gu nodded at the officer and asked him to continue.

"It's either all the security staff and cleaning staff had been bought by some outsiders or they have colluded with...." leader officer trailed off but everyone present there could read between the lines.

"What I'm trying to say, the staff had been bought, it's clear. But for whom they are working, we have to find it out and we'll get the mastermind of this robbery."

After leader officer's analysis, all suspected servants and guards were taken away for further interrogation by officers from criminal bureau.

While inside the Gu residence, Gu family member's suspicion for each other had not faded away a bit.

Old Madam Gu trusted his two son's integrity and loyalty towards her any towards the Gu residence but she didn't trust her two greedy daughter-in-laws, specially after what she found out at the An Shui hall this morning.

Her second daughter-in-law had readily accepted her crime of stealing, so it shows how greedy she was and her eldest daughter-in-law, while she made so made so many promises and vows, old Madam Gu knew there was no smoke without fire. If Madam Yun had accused madam Shen then there surely would be some truth in her words, it was just, Madam Yun had already shamed herself by being a thief in front of so many servants, old Madam Gu didn't wanted her eldest daughter-in-law's to face the same fate. It's not because, old Madam was becoming bias towards her eldest daughter-in-law, she just didn't wanted to be laughed at by the whole capital for not being able to discipline her both daughter-in-laws resulting then being theif.

While old Madam Gu was suspecting her two daughter-in-laws and believing her two sons, both Gu brothers were looking at the other with wary eyes and suspicious gazes.

No one knew their true nature better than themselves. They both knew, how greedy the other brother was.

They both threw a warning glances at each other to tell the truth but both received the same response in return.

Since they both knew each other so well, of course they could read other's eyes. Getting the same response in return, they finally heaved a sigh of relief.

They still needed each other to succeed, be it in the imperial court or the Game they had been playing for nearly half a decade. They didn't wanted this one incident to become thorn in their side.

While old Madam Gu and her two sons were becoming sure of each other's loyalty, Madam Yun and Madam Shen were throwing daggers at each other.

If not for the drama both sister-in-laws had created in the An Shui hall that morning, they were sure to tear each other apart after getting such a wonderful chance.

But both sister-in-laws knew, if they want to stay in the Gu Residence, they had to play it safe. Too much accusations would only lead to more exposer of each other's deeds. And that was what they didn't need at that time.

While in Water Pavilion;

"How is it?" Yang Xumei asked as she put grilled eggplant in Gu Yanyan's plate.
