The air was heavy and filled with tension as Aveline stood at the edge of the forest which is the boundary between the ancestral grounds and her pack. Dawn came down through the sky, allowing serious shadows across the thick forest. Gabriel stood beside her, his face unreadable.
"Are you sure about this?" he asked, his voice low.
Aveline's fingers tightened around the map. "I don't have a choice. If this place holds answers, I need to find them."
Despite her continuing doubts about Gabriel, she knew she couldn't face what lay ahead alone. For all his secrets and half-truths, he was still the strongest friend she had.
The journey to the ancestral grounds was exhausting. Thick clouds rolled in, and a cold wind blew through the trees, moving with the small scent of danger.
