The morning air was fresh and heavy with the tiny scent of pine as Aveline stood in the cabin's doorway, the drawing still held in her hand. Gabriel sat across the room, his back facing her, staring into the shaking flames of the hearth. The tension between them was visible.
"Are you going to explain this?" Aveline's voice went through the silence, sharp and serious. She held up the drawing, her eyes looking straight at him.
Gabriel turned slowly, his face look disturbed. "I don't know what to tell you," he said with his voice low. "I've never seen it before."
"Don't lie to me, Gabriel," she shouted, moving closer. "This isn't just some coincidence. Someone wants us to see this, to know something about a child."
Gabriel's jaw held firmly, his hands relaxing the armrests of the chair. "You think I wouldn't have told you if I knew?" he said, his voice filled with frustration. "You think I'd keep something like this from you?"
