Sara POV
"He's my boss, Mama. Do you recall our last meeting where I told you about my job?" I asked her to force her memory to recall what I said.
"Oh yes, I remember you telling me that you got a job in a very big company, where your boss is very good and takes care of all your needs." I felt a sense of relief when she confirmed my story.
My mother is a heart patient, so I don't want to make her stressed about anything.
"So you're her boss, then?" She motioned for him to take a seat on the stool beside her.
"This is for you, Aunty."
"Thank you."
He gave her the bouquet he had picked out just for her.
"Oh, orchid flowers." She smiled as soon as she caught a whiff of the bouquet's aroma.
"Aunty, do you like it?" He never spoke to anyone so courteously, in my opinion. His tone sounds extra sweet when he is talking to my mom.
"Yes, orchid flowers are my favorites. Sara, do you recall how your father used to always surprise me with flowers on our anniversary?" Her nose found the orchids once more.
The scent of orchids transported her back in time.
"Sara, why haven't you told me about your family?" He cast a curious glance at me.
Oh no, I now see exactly why he came here. He was curious about my family history. I have to notify my mother so that she won't tell him anything.
"I keep my personal and business interactions separate." I gave a cold response.
"Sara, you are quite impolite. If your boss is interested in knowing about your family, why don't you inform him?" My mother scolded me for speaking to Aaron in such a crude manner.
"I'm sorry, Mama, but I don't want to talk to anyone about him." I bowed my head in shame.
"It's okay, Sara; no matter what, he will always be your father.
Mr. Finge, me, and Sara's father parted ways years ago. So now we don't live together."
"Oh, sorry to hear that." He looked at me with an apologetic gaze.
I have no idea what he is trying to achieve.
"Aunty told me more about Sara's childhood."
He came here to learn about Uncle Joe from my mom, but she is also unaware of the secret. How can I prevent him from questioning my mom about Uncle Joe?
"Sara, I am waiting for you outside the postmortem room." I just received Neil's text message on my phone.
Oh god, why did you get me into this dilemma? What should I do now? I must talk to Neil first.
"Please excuse me; I'll be back soon."
"Take your time, Sara; I am sitting with Aunty." When he saw me go from the room, he grinned widely.
He achieved his goal exactly.
"Neil, what's the emergency?" The first thing he did when he saw me was try to hug me, but I reached out and stopped him. I don't know why but I want to talk to him from a distance.
"Sara, I am in dire need of money." He looked afraid. There were bruises all over his face.
"Neil, what happened to you? What caused the bruises on your face?" I gave him a worried look.
"Some thugs had beaten me up and demanded money. They threatened to kill me if I didn't pay them."
"What? Why don't you report it to the police?"
"Because they were very powerful people. They will allow me to live in peace if I give them money."
"How much, then, do you want?" I'm not sure how I'll organize the funds, but I can't turn him down because he has always supported me during difficult times.
"$10,000."
"What? It's a huge amount." Hearing the amount left, my eyes wide open in disbelief.
"Sara, you are my only hope; please assist me.
When I asked my dad to help, he didn't listen to me." He pleaded in front of me.
"All right, give me a little time, and I'll make arrangements to get this money." I promised to assist him.
"Who was the man with you, Sara?"
Oh, so he saw him with me.
"He's my spouse." I told him the truth.
"What?
Sara, you cheated on me?" His expression was one of heartbreak as he gazed at me.
"I am sorry, Neil; I didn't have any choice at that time." I made an effort to clarify for him.
"Do you adore him, Sara?"
He stared into my eyes.
Is he joking? How am I supposed to love someone as callous as Aaron?
"No, I didn't love him. It was merely an agreement between us." I disclosed to him my marriage arrangement.
"Don't worry, Sara—I'll return shortly to release you from his cage." I was astonished to hear him. He asked no questions concerning my character. He didn't even question my virginity. He's still completely willing to accept me. That is love's strength.
Only souls, not bodies, can truly experience love. But how could Aaron possibly comprehend the true essence of love when he has never ventured beyond his physical form? He confines his thought process solely to physical forms.
"Neil, I think you have to go now." After hearing footsteps, I asked him to go.
A physician was making his way toward the postmortem room. I immediately remembered to ask him about the tablets and injections that I saw in Aron's drawer.
"Could you tell me more about these injections and medications, doctor?" Using my phone, I showed him a picture of the medication.
"Who used these tablets?" He gave me a really serious look.
"Is there any problem with these medications, doctor?"
"Miss, the injection you showed me in this picture was used to harden the premature penis in its early years, and these pills are utilized to boost sex efficiency. Once someone becomes addicted to these drugs, it is quite difficult for them to break the habit of taking them."
"What?" When I heard him, my jaw dropped.
My feet felt as if someone had grasped the floor. Although I am aware of Aron's addiction to sex, I had no idea he would go to such extremes to satisfy his lust.
"What are you doing there, Sara?" A loud shout alerted me, and I quickly concealed my phone.
I'm trying to figure out what the hidden monster is hiding behind his innocent face, but all I could see in his eyes was sympathy and pity. I have a lot of questions. Though I wanted to inquire how he concealed his lust behind this worried expression, I restrained myself. This fact does not sit in my stomach; instead, it feels like a knot in my throat that I am trying to swallow.
When I attempt to question him about his addiction, it feels as though my word chocked in my throat.
