Blank Canva

Sara POV

"Life is a blank canvas that God provided for each of us and then gave us the freedom to decorate it however we pleased. Instead of giving someone else the paintbrush of our lives, we must accept complete responsibility for the pictures we paint on the canvas of our lives."

In the dead of night, I read one of my favorite passages from my just-published book before leaving Ema's home.

I don't want to lie to her anymore, even though I know she will be concerned about my abrupt departure from her life and home. She was a big help to me during my rough patch. I often considered telling her the whole truth, but I never worked up the nerve to do so. After much thought, I finally convinced myself to meet his other family.

I'm not sure why he wanted me to meet them, but one thing is for certain—I still have a lot of secrets that have been kept from me since I was a young child. I didn't know my dad came from a wealthy family; therefore, I lived my entire half-life in poverty. My grandpa kicked him out of the house because of his alcoholism, but after he passed away, my dad became the only owner of the land.

He realized his error and chose to end his addiction when my mom and I left his life. Later, he got married to another woman and started his new family. Even though I no longer have issues with him, I do question why, after realizing his errors, he never made an effort to find us.

How could he marry another woman when he loved my mom? A small part of me wants to know all the answers, but unfortunately, my dad left this world before answering my questions. I decided to travel to the nearest town to look for my stepmother and her daughter after learning from one of my neighbors that they resided there.

Given that Aron and I haven't been together for nearly four months, I'm confident he has completely forgotten about me.

Did he still sleep with Jerry? The thought of him engaging in sexual activity with Jerry made my heart bleed.

It's a full moon night, so I don't have to deal with too much difficulty. Still, I find it difficult to go down the hill at night. In the morning, I reached the town where my stepmother and sister lived.

They live in a luxurious area of that town, and since there aren't many wealthy people in this tiny town, I hope that I will soon find them. After searching for the whole day, I finally found their house address. I was walking towards their house to meet them.

That's when I noticed Neil approaching me. Oh no, how did he get here? What is he doing in this town? To hide myself from his sight, I turned my back on him. But why am I hiding myself from him? I did nothing wrong with him, and he wasn't aware of my crime, so there was nothing to hide from him.

"Why are you hiding from me, Sara?" My steps halted on hearing him.

"Neil, what are you doing here?" I turned to face him.

"Thank God, I've finally found you! I came here looking for you." He hugged me without wasting time. I also felt comforted by his warm hug, so I returned it.

"Sara, why did you leave me alone? Do you know how much I was worried about you? I looked all over for you, but I couldn't find you. I repeatedly attempted to call that number, but it is no longer in service." He complained to me for not informing him about my whereabouts over the last few months.

"I am sorry; I don't know that you were so worried about me; otherwise, I will inform you about my whereabouts."

"Leave all this; tell me, what are you doing here?" He questioned me with curiosity.

"I came here to meet my stepsister and stepmother." I told him about my father's last wish and showed him the letter he had written. I kept from telling him that I killed Uncle Joe in self-defense because I still lacked the confidence to own up to my crime.

"Sara, you became a billionaire. Wow, this is unbelievable." He grinned at seeing my dad's attorney of will.

"Yes, sometimes destiny plays with you in strange ways." As I approached their front gate, I exhaled deeply, unsure of what to say to them. Although I am grateful that God sent Neil to assist me, I still experience anxiety when confronting them. At last, I worked up the courage to ring the doorbell.

A stunning blonde girl opened the door in a matter of seconds.

"Sara, I can't believe my eyes." She grinned broadly as she turned to face me.

"Mama, see, big sister came to meet us." She called her mother to meet me.

Though I'm not sure how she recognized me without having met me before, I feel at ease knowing that they were happy to meet me. I was relieved when they welcomed me into their home because I had thought that they would react furiously when I arrived.

"Sara Grace, my husband, talked about your sweetness and kindness, I'm pleased we had the opportunity to meet you at last." An elderly woman about my mother's age hugged me.

I wanted to ask them how they knew about me, but I chose not to ruin their excitement. I took a close look at the spacious house and the luxurious amenities it offered. Many servants are working in different sections of the house. I own this house.

I don't want to appear disrespectful to them by asking them to leave this inherited house for me, but my father left it for me and wanted me to claim it as my own. I don't mind if my stepmother and stepsister live in this house.

Despite their warm welcome to me in their home, I remain puzzled as to why my father transferred all his property into my name before his death. He specifically requested that I not abandon my rights at any cost. In that letter, what precisely was he trying to tell me?

I don't have much knowledge about these things. I need someone who can clearly explain to me all of these property-related issues. Although Neil explained everything to me, I still wasn't convinced by his explanation. I need someone who, like Aron, can break down these complex concepts into understandable terms.

I wish he could be here with me at this moment so that I can share the wonderful news with him.
