But despite his protests, his feet turned back toward the abandoned hut. His free hand waved dramatically as he kept muttering. "Fine, fine! I'll go back. But when I die, this is 'on you', heavens! I'm putting it in my death report!"
Back at the Hut.
Lin Feng crept through the underbrush, the Magnum held awkwardly in both hands. His muttering hadn't stopped.
"Who even risks their life like this? Definitely not normal people. Nope. Only idiots with 'Main Character Syndrome!' That's me. Lin Feng, the idiot."
When the hut came into view, his stomach dropped. It was even worse than he remembered. Blood coated the ground in sticky pools, and chunks of flesh littered the area like grim confetti.
He swallowed hard. "Yup. Definitely should've kept running."
But something caught his eye. The pack of wolves—gone. The entire group, vanished. Only the shredded remains of his sect brothers and sisters remained.
"Huh?" He stepped closer, looking inside the hut.
No growls, no glowing eyes, no terrifying predators. Just silence.
He tilted his head. "Wait a minute… Did they leave? Why would they leave? Wolves don't just pack up and—"
A thought struck him, and he slapped his forehead again. "Oh, great. They're 'looking for me'. Perfect. Just perfect!"
"What do I do now? Go back to the forest? Stay here and wait to die? Or maybe, I don't know, build a treehouse and start a new life as a hermit?!"
A low growl cut through the air, freezing him mid-step.
"Not this again!" Lin Feng turned slowly.
Standing in the doorway of the hut was a lone wolf, smaller than the pack leader but no less menacing. Its fur bristled as it sniffed the air, locking eyes with him.
Lin Feng blinked. "Oh, come on! I was just 'thinking'! Do you wolves have mind-reading powers now?!"
The wolf growled louder, baring its teeth.
"Alright, alright! Let's not do anything rash." He raised the revolver, hands trembling. "You stay over there, I stay over here. Nice and civilized, okay?"
The wolf leapt.
"Of course not!" Lin Feng yelped, fumbling with the gun. He pulled the trigger, but the shot went wide, blasting a hole in the hut's crumbling wall.
"Oops! My bad!" he yelled, scrambling backward.
However, the loud bang was enough to keep the wolf disoriented for a moment with a moment of fear too.
However, that was only for a moment. The wolf lunged again snarling, but Lin Feng tripped over a discarded sword and fell flat on his back. He fired wildly, missing every shot.
The wolf danced around from the startled loud bang of the gun but seeing it's just loud sound and burnt smell, nothing harmful yet, it pounced, teeth snapping inches from his face.
"Why won't you just die?!" Lin Feng screeched, kicking out with his legs. He managed to shove the wolf off balance, sending it tumbling into a pile of rotten wood.
The beast snarled, shaking itself off. Lin Feng's noob fingers still fumbling with the gun as he finally gets a grip.
The wolf lunged once more, but this time Lin Feng fired point-blank. The Magnum roared, blood and flesh sprayed and sent the wolf shot kicked with a loud cry of howling, its body twitching before going still.
Lin Feng stood there, panting, his arms shaking from the adrenaline.
"Okay," he said, his voice cracking. "Let's agree never to show off again."
But the sound of more growls from the forest reminded him this wasn't over.
"Oh, come on! Can't you guys take a hint?!"
Without another word, Lin Feng bolted from the hut, revolver clutched tightly in his hands. Behind him, the growls grew louder, and the shadows of the pack began to close in.
"Lin Feng never dies," he gasped, dodging branches and rocks. "But he sure gets close enough to wish he did!"
Lin Feng's legs burned as he sprinted through the dark forest. Twigs snapped under his steps, and small branches slapped at his face. Behind him, the wolf pack's howls grew louder, their glowing eyes visible in the shadows.
"Screw you Heavenly Guilt!" he yelled between gasps. "Why do I listen to you? 'Go back,' you said. 'Be a hero,' you said! And now I'm going to 'die!'
The Magnum revolver weighed heavy in his hand, but he clung to it like a lifeline. He squeezed the trigger blindly, the weapon roaring as he fired shot after shot into the darkness.
Bang!
Bang!
Bang!
The wolves yelped as bullets found their marks. Two dropped in quick succession, their bodies skidding to a halt on the forest floor.
"Hah!" Lin Feng laughed hysterically, his voice cracking. "How do you like that? Eat lead, you mangy—"
A wolf lunged from his left, nearly taking his arm off. He stumbled, firing wildly as he tried to keep his balance.
Bang! Bang!
The beast fell, blood spraying from its neck.
Lin Feng didn't stop running. His mind raced as fast as his legs. "Why are there 'so many' of you?! Did your alpha have a buy-one-get-one-free pup sale or something?!"
Another wolf snapped at his heels, and he kicked backward, his shoes catching its snout.
Bang!
Seeing a clear sight, he shot but the shot hit the ground, but the noise startled the wolf enough for Lin Feng to gain a few extra steps.
"Okay, okay," he muttered to himself. "Deep breaths. Just keep shooting. Don't think. Thinking is bad."
Bang! Bang! Bang!
He kept pulling the trigger, not even aiming anymore. More wolves fell, but for every one that dropped, two more seemed to appear.
It wasn't until that it hit him.
Wait.
His fingers paused mid-action. However, his legs did not.
Wait a minute.
He glanced at the Magnum, confusion in his brows. "How… How many times have I fired this thing?"
He counted quickly in his head. Six chambers. Right? Six bullets. He'd definitely fired more than six times.
In fact, he'd fired way more than six times.
Lin Feng slowed his pace, daring to glance back. The pack was still chasing him, their numbers dwindling but their bloodlust fierce.
"Am I crazy?" he whispered. "Did I miscount?"
Bang! Bang!
Two more shots. No click, no pause.
The realization hit him like a slap.
"This thing… Does this thing have UNLIMITED AMMO?"
