The barn was quiet, save for the distant hum of the town awakening in the valley below. Scarlett peered out through a crack in the wooden planks, her chest tight with unease. Nathan worked silently behind her, laying out weapons and scanning a hastily drawn map of the area.
"They're coming, aren't they?" Scarlett asked, her voice breaking the silence.
Nathan didn't look up, his focus unwavering.
"It's only a matter of time before they gain on us."
Scarlett clenched her fists, her nails digging into her palms.
"We can't keep running."
"We won't," Nathan replied, his tone calm but firm. He turned to face her; his eyes steady.
