Chapter 103: Contradictions and Beatings

Hammer was a common sight among the dock workers, just like his name was common.

He had the lousy temper that most dock workers seemed to have, always finding something or someone disagreeable, managing to be annoyed by someone every single day.

He never thought it was his fault. If he had a problem, why was it someone else upsetting him and not himself causing his own displeasure?

These past few days, his moods were even more unstable because all the bars had stopped selling alcohol but told them that if they were willing to pay a bit more than usual, they could still buy alcoholic beverages somewhere.

Hammer had gone, and even the worst beer cost fifteen cents a glass, the kind he usually drank was twenty cents, and if he wanted to add an ounce of cheap whiskey, that was forty cents.

Too damn expensive!

He made only thirty-seven dollars a month. If he converted it all into beer… he had his son do the math, it was just ninety-two "bombs".
