Under Lance's gaze, he finally compromised, "I can give you..." he paused, hesitating as if after an internal struggle, before asking, "Will you also demand money from Arthur?"
A smile spread across Lance's face, "The money he owes me, even if he is the son of Councilman Williams, he still owes me money. He can't change that fact."
Perhaps it was Lance's unyielding stance on collecting the debt that touched Mr. Ted. He stood up, went over to the safe, and opened it.
Inside was a large, sturdy kraft paper bag, the kind with a heavy-duty paper and waterproofing.
The entire bag contained only a small piece of white paper that seemed to have been torn from somewhere, on which was written:
"I borrowed fifteen thousand yuan from Ted in June of 1023, and will pay it back by the end of the year. Signed, Arthur."
What followed was a large check, along with over a thousand yuan in cash.
Lance packed everything up neatly and handed it to Hiram, "See, what did I tell you?"
