At the dining table sat the three members of the Gongsun family, all of whom looked different from the present, maintaining their appearances from nearly a decade ago.
Ah Ce's mother was just over thirty years old at the time, still appearing young and cradling him as she sobbed quietly. His father had just turned thirty-five, wearing square glasses, with an exceptionally stern expression and tightly furrowed brows.
A young Gongsun Ce sat in a chair, held by his mother, his face blank and empty.
"I'm sorry, child." His mother, unable to stop wiping her tears, said, "Mommy should not have looked at you like that, Mommy was just a bit shocked. We've always loved you... will you forgive Mommy?"
The child sitting in the chair answered blankly, "Mom? I'm not upset, why are you crying..."
Gongsun Ce tapped the clock, the hands trembled slightly, and all movement in the room stopped. He picked up a block from the small table and examined it in his hands.
