Chapter 1 Diary_2

It only took three minutes for Mr. Di to skim through the documents, before he restacked them neatly and held them in his hand.

They were completely soundproofed, and communication was conducted through the transmission of electronic signals.

Mr. Di's voice was processed by a wall receptor, converted into electronic signals, and then transmitted to the earpieces worn by the two men.

Even though the sound was processed, it was still uncomfortable to listen to.

It was supposed to be transmitted through the earpiece, yet it felt like it was coming from deep beneath the ground.

"It's been a long time since I've seen young visitors. I can help you analyze the case, but I have one condition. Talking to an old man like Anderson will accelerate my aging; let this young man discuss the case details."

Anderson was well aware of the criminal's temperament; if he refused, it was very likely that today's visit would be in vain.

He turned to look at Zhang Chi, who was taking notes.

"Remember, don't disclose any personal information in the following conversation; just ask about matters related to the case.

I'll be listening the whole time, and if there's any inappropriate dialogue, I'll terminate this prison visit."

As an intern detective at the Behavioral Science Department, interacting with criminals was going to be a major part of Zhang Chi's future work, and he accepted the task without hesitation.

As a senior colleague, Anderson stepped back, leaving the two young men together.

Zhang Chi didn't rush to communicate with the criminal in front of him; first, he closed his eyes and communicated with something deep inside his brain through a peculiar method.

After finishing the communication, he opened his eyes again,

and the naivety of a newcomer immediately vanished, replaced by a pair of unusually resolute eyes.

Just as he was about to converse with the criminal behind the bulletproof glass,

the other party was all smiles, using his raised right hand to wave at him at a set frequency.

The earpiece transmitted a voice, which, compared to before, seemed much warmer.

"Come closer..."

The words seemed as if they could penetrate his thoughts,

but Zhang Chi remained unmoved, blocking the verbal lure with his mental strength.

The voice inside the earpiece continued, "Oh? It seems we have quite an outstanding newcomer. However, if you don't come closer, then there's no need for us to talk."

"Go forward," Anderson's voice came from behind.

Zhang Chi looked troubled, but he took slow steps forward, stopping about a meter away from the glass.

"Cough cough, Mr. Di, can you discuss with me..."

Just as Zhang Chi took the initiative to ask a question, he was suddenly interrupted by a voice through the earpiece.

"What's your name?"

Zhang Chi realized he had not yet introduced himself, and just as he was about to utter his name between clenched teeth, the earpiece spoke again.

"Zhang... Zhen. No, that's not it. Let me guess, Zhang Chi, right?"

"Yes."

Just when Zhang Chi was about to steer the conversation back, the other side preempted him, directly announcing the analysis of the case:

"This 'Butterfly Killer' will likely commit another crime within three days. There's a high chance that the victim is already in a kidnapped state. Investigate the region of his second or third crime scene, and look into missing overweight males aged 45-55 years old; you might find some clues."

Mr. Di, while providing the analysis, expertly folded the photocopy in his hands into the shape of a small knife.

"Thank you."

After obtaining useful information, Zhang Chi did not linger, sensing some kind of danger.

As he turned to leave, the voice came through the earpiece once more, "So, when do you plan to commit a crime?"

"Huh?!"

"Let me phrase it differently, when did you start having the urge to kill, Zhang Chi? Let me guess..."

Zhang Chi decisively removed the earpiece, cutting off verbal communication with Mr. Di.

However, their exchange was not interrupted; on the contrary, the voice became clearer. It was no longer processed through electronic signals, but instead came directly from behind him.

If the previous voice seemed to come from the depths of the earth, then this raw voice was like a seam leading straight to Hell, the true voice of a demon seeping out from within.

"What?!"

Zhang Chi was shocked to find that the glass barrier between him and the criminal had disappeared.

"Calm down~"

The whisper in his mind instantly dispelled the tension, and Zhang Chi quickly put on the black gloves that matched his overcoat, switching to combat mode.

This black overcoat used a multi-layered flexible metal structure suitable for combat, capable of blocking medium-caliber bullets, and Zhang Chi had scored the highest in the combat test before joining the force.

He adopted a Mongolian wrestling stance, preparing to subdue the unarmed criminal in front of him.

Swoosh!

Something flashed by his eyes, too fast to see clearly.

Then, something fell to the ground one after another.

Zhang Chi looked down to see his ten fingers scattered across the floor, his combat gloves cleanly sliced open.

Although fingers are connected to the heart,

his brain suppressed the pain, and his grim eyes locked onto Mr. Di in front of him, noticing that the paper documents had been folded into a knife shape.

"Paper!"

There was no time for Zhang Chi to be astonished by the other's skills. He shifted his stance and swung his fingerless palms with all his might.

Thwack! There was a sound of meaty contact.

Instead of hitting Mr. Di, Zhang Chi's wrist was caught tightly by the other party,

the feeling of the grip was not human-like but more like a scorching iron lock restricting his wrist.

"What kind of monster are you!?"

Zhang Chi showed no signs of giving up and swung a high kick with determination.

Thwack!

This time, it was a solid hit.

However, the feeling from his instep was as if he had kicked a stone surface; Mr. Di in front of him did not move at all, only his head tilted about 10 degrees.

Danger!

Zhang Chi felt an unprecedented danger!
