Chapter 15 Mr. Lynx, shall I make a video for you?

The wild rabbit was a "gift" that Jinya brought to Leopard Sister, saying that poor Old Leopard still couldn't hunt, so she grudgingly fed her.

Chen Ying swore she absolutely saw a provocation in Jinya's eyes.

But Leopard Sister didn't react with fury as Jinya had hoped; instead, she happily accepted Jinya's feeding.

Disappointed at not getting the reaction she wanted, the Big Cat sister huffed and puffed, brushing Chen Ying's calves back and forth with her tail, whining her grievances.

She glanced at the weather outside.

The sky was overcast with clouds, suggesting a heavy rain would fall in the afternoon.

Jinya didn't want to leave, and Chen Ying didn't feel the need to chase her away.

After opening a small door next to the iron gate, allowing Jinya to leave at any time, Chen Ying pulled out the camp bed and lay down on it.

Sure enough, a light rain began to fall just after three o'clock.

After waking from his nap, Chen Ying sent a message to Yin Li, asking where he was patrolling and whether he had found shelter from the rain.

In the mountain forest, with its numerous trees, selecting a spot to take shelter from the rain really put a Forest Patrol's experience to the test.

"I'm okay here, I found an old hunter's cabin that's partially destroyed, probably more than twenty years old. It's good for sheltering from the rain, but maybe not so suitable for overnight."

Yin Li sent him a video.

In the dim, dense forest, a wooden cabin covered with moss had half its roof broken, with parts of the walls also damaged.

Yin Li was at the corner with the intact side of the roof above him. But about thirty centimeters above his head, the wood was already rotten through by a third, leaving a gap from which rain kept drifting into the cabin.

"I'm thinking, when I have some time, I'll go back to the village and ask Uncle Mu and the others for help to fix this place up. Now that we're encouraging villagers to sign up for patrols, this could be made into a nice resting place."

Through the video, Chen Ying also thought Yin Li's plan was good. The room wasn't small, around forty or fifty square meters, with a large tree in the middle that grew through the roof. Because of the tree's coverage, the broken part of the roof wasn't too damaged, and the house's structural frame was still intact.

Just need to replace the whole roof with new wood, change the rotten wood on the walls, add a layer of steel frame underneath, and then cover it with wood or bamboo.

In the forest, tree felling wasn't entirely prohibited, but it had to be approved by the Forestry Bureau, which required reporting the species and size of the tree needed to be cut and replanting afterward.

All this work, Chen Ying estimated, would not be finished until the end of the year.

"Ali, can you take a picture or a video of the big tree in the middle, walking around it?"

Chen Ying saw something in the small video clip, but wasn't sure, so he quickly messaged Yin Li to take another shot.

After receiving the newly taken video, Chen Ying carefully identified it and then made a call.

"Ali, I'm afraid your hunter's cabin repair project might not be feasible."

Chen Ying's tone was somewhat schadenfreude.

"Look up and see if there are scratch marks on the trunk. If I'm not wrong, that treehouse has already been claimed as territory by a certain Big Cat, and it might even have made a nest up in that tree."

Yin Li, skeptical, insisted on climbing up to check.

Once he did, he saw clear marks left by the Big Cat.

"Why is my luck so bad? Can't it choose a different place?"

"If it moved, would you dare sleep in peace?"

Yin Li had no reply, only sighed, and decided to find another spot to shelter from the rain while it was still light.

Just as he was shouldering his pack and preparing to head out, he saw a Large Lynx looking down at him from a tree branch.

Frankly, in that instant, Yin Li had already figured out how his own funeral should be conducted.

He didn't dare move, and the Big Cat didn't either, lying on the branch and staring fixedly at him.

After watching for a while, Chen Ying grew increasingly sure that the big cat was familiar.

Devoid of sunlight, it looked brownish, but in the sun, it turned into a beautiful golden brown. The fur on its two ears was jet black and flowing; its body muscular and strong; this was none other than Jinya's brother!

Chen Ying's eyes shifted, and he fished a small pouch from his bosom.

Inside was a tuft of Jinya's fur.

This was Chen Ying's amulet.

In their village customs, carrying the fur, claws, or teeth of a fierce beast can avert many dangers in the forest.

Chen Ying could only hope that Jinya's brother would catch whiff of Jinya's scent and spare poor him.

Actually, rangers often encounter wild animals in the forest, and most of them will stay away from humans after catching their scent because humans are not on their menu.

But for someone like Chen Ying who accidentally stumbled into a fierce beast's den, the danger was considerable.

Chen Ying was also equipped with self-defense weapons, like an anesthetic gun and such.

If Jinya's brother wanted to attack, he would have no choice but to shoot.

The anesthetic guns they were equipped with used a short-term drug; the effects would wear off in just a few minutes, and some powerful animals would just feel a bit dizzy and not even fall completely asleep.

Yin Li waited a good while with his phone but didn't hear Chen Ying speak, instinctively deducing he might be in danger.

Luckily, Chen Ying was wearing his earpiece, and upon hearing Yin Li's anxious inquiries, he quietly mentioned he might have encountered Mr. Lepus and that they were at a standoff.

Upon hearing this, Yin Li quickly called Jinya over and had Chen Ying turn on the phone's loudspeaker.

When called over, Jinya was still clueless, and Yin Li pinched its ear, coaxing it to call out to "brother" towards a small block; Jinya couldn't make a sound for a long time and instinctively tried to lick the small block.

"No, Jinya, please help, call out for brother, your brother, that gorgeous Large Lynx is right there."

Jinya half understood and half didn't, and it looked up and outside, but it didn't see its brother.

But since its own Two-legged Beast asked it to call out, why not just do it?

"Aow, aow aow?" Is that you, brother? Where are you?

From Chen Ying's phone came Jinya's cries, and the Large Lynx, which had been ready to pounce, suddenly stopped its movement, looking around alertly.

"Aowr!" Sister, where are you?

Jinya, taken aback on hearing its brother's voice, stepped back in alarm, then cautiously edged closer to Yin Li's phone, sniffed it, and wore a puzzled expression.

"Aow, brother, brother's in here?"

Hearing its sister's call, the Large Lynx leaped down gracefully, stepping closer to Chen Ying with each movement.

Chen Ying's heart pounded like a drum, his hand holding the phone trembling.

"Ali, find something to wrap the phone in and put it on the ground, give Jinya's brother a chance to talk to her for a bit."

Anticipating Chen Ying might not withstand the Large Lynx's intimidation, Yin Li timely interjected, suggesting he leave the phone and slowly back away.

As expected, the Large Lynx wasn't really interested in Chen Ying; it just wanted to find out how its sister got locked inside that small thing.

"Hey hey hey, don't bite, don't bite."

Seeing the Large Lynx ready to bite without a second word, Chen Ying impulsively approached the Lynx, trying to save his own phone.

Seeing Chen Ying approach, the Large Lynx backed away two steps, bared its teeth at him, and let out a roar.

"Don't, don't get angry, how about I make a video call?"

Acting as if his brain had short-circuited for a moment, Chen Ying spoke while simultaneously initiating a video call request.
