Chapter 23 Little Unlucky Egg

After feeding the little leopard, Chen Ying packed up her things and sat in the courtyard with Group Leader Li to chat.

"Does Group Leader Li have any plans?"

"No, I just wanted to talk to you about the medication for giant pandas in the later stages."

Group Leader Li smiled and waved his hand, "I heard you want to try traditional Chinese medicine on it?"

"Yes, I plan to. I have already sent the prescription to my teacher, Professor Bai, for review, but I can't make the decision alone about using traditional Chinese medicine. If we really use traditional medicine or some techniques from it to treat Mendun'er, we definitely need the teacher to come over and provide direct guidance."

He had done this the night before when he returned to the dormitory.

Little Sen and others told him how that female doctor despised traditional veterinary medicine. Chen Ying didn't show anger on the surface, but he was very uncomfortable inside.

Arguing face-to-face, especially with a female comrade, was something he couldn't bring himself to do.

Moreover, the effectiveness of the treatment isn't determined by who speaks louder but by the actual progress that follows.

Using traditional medicine techniques for the subsequent treatment of Mendun'er was the conclusion he drew from the Level 100 medical skills given by the system, which definitely wouldn't be wrong.

Group Leader Li didn't question him, but asked a few questions from many perspectives. Ultimately, he didn't really say anything specific, just encouraged Chen Ying before leaving.

Just as he entered the Panda House, Little Sen came running to ask Chen Ying what Group Leader Li had said.

"Nothing much, he just asked some questions about traditional veterinary medicine. You should continue to stay there and learn more, stealing skills from the expert group isn't easy."

Chen Ying truly didn't take the medical team's skepticism to heart.

There were many people here today, Leopard Sister didn't feel like coming out for a stroll, so after taking care of this family of three, he planned to go up the mountain to have a look.

He hadn't seen Jinya heading this way in the last couple of days, and wondered if she had gone to find her brother.

Today, Chen Ying planned to walk towards the area where Jinya was rescued.

That area was probably Jinya's territory, and it also housed a number of small mammals and birds.

Jinya loved eating rabbits, so he guessed that the wild rabbits weren't likely to become overpopulated, but he also couldn't let Jinya exterminate them, leaving other animals that preyed on rabbits without food.

To get from here to the hillside where Jinya was rescued required crossing a small stream, about five or six meters wide, relying solely on a zip line.

Many people nowadays have never experienced the old-fashioned forest zip line. Today, having nothing better to do, Chen Ying decided to add some content to the official account.

He would just film this zip line.

The entire length of the zip line was about twenty meters, and after reinforcement, it could hold up to two hundred kilograms.

In fact, many mountain areas no longer rely on zip lines to span rivers between mountains; the zip line here was mainly preserved to facilitate rangers' retreat to the rescue station.

After hanging his phone around his neck and turning on the camera mode, he also activated a drone to film.

Once ready, Chen Ying donned simple gear and attached himself to the cable with a safety hook.

With a hop, relying on the inclined curvature of the cable, he quickly slid towards the opposite bank.

At the endpoint on the opposite side was a small grassy area, plus two large trees specifically planted to facilitate stopping.

Stopping with your feet really tested your skills, and a bit of carelessness could easily lead to broken bones.

Almost regarded as a local, Chen Ying was very proficient with the zip line.

In less than two minutes, he reached the opposite side.

After packing up his gear and stuffing it into his backpack, he pulled out his hiking poles and continued deeper into the forest.

In his hands, the hiking poles served more to probe the path and scare away snakes.

After all, nobody knew if stepping into dense undergrowth might result in encountering four little eyes.

To be cautious, he was wearing high-top hiking boots.

He had not gone far when he saw a group of rock sheep frolicking and chasing each other on the opposite mountain.

The terrain of their mountain area varied. Those mountains opposite had vegetation that was not as lush as on this side, classified as high mountain meadow areas, and were only separated from this side by a wide gorge, which was densely jungly.

After piloting the drone to film the troop of rock sheep for a while, Chen Ying ventured deeper into the dense forest.

Under a pine tree, a little squirrel with a russet coat was anxiously pacing in circles.

Hearing someone approaching, the little squirrel quickly scaled the tree and timidly hid there, peering down.

Chen Ying meant to avoid it, but suddenly he heard a faint cry.

He hurriedly jogged a few steps to the tree, but before he could look around, the little squirrel struck him on the head with a pine cone.

"Squeak squeak, don't come any closer, jerk, go away!"

The little squirrel, both cowardly and impatient on the tree, contracted and stretched with a hint of a crying tone.

"Don't be afraid. I won't hurt you. I thought I heard the sound of a little squirrel getting hurt. Is it here?"

He dared not stride forward, choosing instead to inch closer to the pine tree step by step.

Indeed, the closer he got, the clearer he could hear the sound.

Using his hiking stick, he pushed aside leaves and branches and revealed a little squirrel trapped under a leg.

It was still a squirrel cub, no bigger than a banana from head to tail.

Seeing its child spotted, the little squirrel mustered its courage, charging down in an attempt to bite the two-legged beast.

Chen Ying was quick with his hands and grabbed the red squirrel by the scruff of its neck as it leapt toward him.

"Calm down. Let's rescue your little cub first."

He couldn't comprehend how the little cub had gotten trapped under the tree trunk.

Deciding not to ponder that further since rescuing the squirrel was paramount.

Perhaps through the skin-to-skin contact, the red squirrel suddenly grasped Chen Ying's friendliness. After being set down, it didn't attack again but obediently sat by, waiting for its baby to be rescued.

After moving the reasonably heavy trunk, the trapped squirrel cub was revealed.

The little fellow was terrified, shivering incessantly in Chen Ying's palm.

He carefully checked the cub's body. Fortunately, aside from some abrasions and compression injuries, there were no fractures.

Given the squirrel cub's reluctance to move, it might have had a hairline fracture.

Chen Ying set down his backpack, pulled out a medical kit, disinfected the little squirrel's wounds, applied a bone-healing ointment he had made himself, and then wrapped the wounds with a small bandage.

The cub was in its growth phase, and as long as there was no severe fracture, such hairline fractures would heal quickly.

With his secret ointment, the little squirrel cub would recover in no more than a week.

This ointment had been personally tested by Meng Yan for its effectiveness.

After treating the squirrel cub's injuries and returning it to its mother, Chen Ying took out a small bag of dried fruit he had prepared, pouring it into his palm for the squirrel mother to try.

The red squirrel mother grabbed her child and climbed up the tree in a couple of bites. It wasn't long before she came down again, stuffed her mouth with dried fruit from Chen Ying's hand, and then dashed back up the tree, not coming down for quite some time.

This interlude slightly disrupted Chen Ying's plan. He packed up his belongings, left the remaining dried fruit where he had been sitting, and quietly left.

Not long after his departure, the squirrel mother came down again, wandered around for a while, and upon discovering the two-legged beast was gone and there were tasty things at the previous spot, she quickly picked up the dried fruit, stuffed it into her mouth, and after looking around for a while, climbed up the tree again.

After leaving the squirrel mother and her unfortunate little baby, Chen Ying discovered traces of a fierce beast nearby.

To chase or not to chase, he was somewhat hesitant.
