Chapter 21 I'm Going to Report to the Leader

A family of three returned to the animal shed, where Leopard Sister jumped onto the platform and lay down, resting her head on her front paws, looking somewhat worriedly at her two cubs.

She felt that her injuries had almost healed. Today, when she went out for a walk and jumped onto a tree, she felt a slight pull in her groin but no pain; she estimated that in a few more days, she could loosen up the stiff parts from her injury.

She wasn't worried about whether she could survive in the jungle; she was more concerned whether her little cubs, accustomed to being fed by humans, could learn to hunt for themselves once they entered the jungle.

It seemed she couldn't be lazy any longer. The small hillside they visited tonight was perfect to start practicing with the children.

Leopard Sister was also a first-time mother, completely forgetting how old her own cubs were. Strictly speaking, they hadn't even completely weaned yet. Hunting and such were a bit too premature.

While she was thinking about this, Leopard Sister started to snore softly.

Chen Ying came to check on them before going to bed and saw Leopard Sister lying on the platform, fast asleep. In the corner of the room, the two cubs were curled up together, also asleep.

It seemed today's short walk of just over an hour was a lot of activity for the cubs, who were so tired that they didn't even look for their mother.

When Chen Ying entered the animal shed, Leopard Sister's ears twitched.

Even in her sleep, she maintained the appropriate vigilance; she was just too lazy to move as she smelled a familiar scent.

After all, the days of child-rearing were so exhausting; she finally had a chance to take an easy nap when the kids weren't looking for her.

Chen Ying felt the two little leopards' bellies, still round and full, so they didn't need a midnight snack, but likely she'd have to feed them once in the middle of the night.

In the future, she'd have to learn from this and watch their feeding time closely, not letting them get into the habit of waking up in the middle of the night wanting to eat.

In the wild, it'd be hard for Leopard Sister to manage the cubs alone; if they didn't sleep well at night, hunting during the day would be more difficult.

Chen Ying noted this on her phone, then quietly left the animal shed.

There was still a big gift pack in the system that she hadn't opened; she wasn't ready to open it now, but had an idea to try out when she had the chance to see if it would work.

Two days passed in a blink of an eye.

Early this morning, Chen Ying and the others were busy at work.

Mendun'er was being transferred up today, along with a five-person treatment team.

The five of them would take turns on the night shift, reducing the burden on Little Sen.

The person on the night shift would rest in the small house between the medical area and the duty area; there was no need to arrange extra beds here in the office building.

Besides Mendun'er's return, two trainee Forest Patrol from Yin Li's Forest Station were also supposed to report today.

Suddenly, the Rescue Station felt crowded.

Mendun'er arrived at half-past ten in the morning, escorted by a large entourage, and even the local leaders responsible for this area came.

Although tumors in giant pandas are rare, once diagnosed, treatment difficulty and prognosis are the two key factors hindering their survival.

This time was somewhat better; after Mendun'er's surgery, the biopsy showed the tumor was benign, and the prognosis was unexpectedly smooth.

"After expert review from the base and the conservation center, Mendun'er, even if recuperated, won't be able to fully return to the forest. Therefore, the expert group from the base suggests that your Rescue Station be included in the wild conservation area for unified management."

Chen Ying didn't want to worry about administrative things, nor was it his turn to do so.

All he needed to know was that Mendun'er would likely stay in this area to live.

Just need to pay more attention, feed a little more, and when there's nothing to do, give it a couple more check-ups.

After sending off the leaders, the mountain regained its tranquility.

Today, a man and a woman, both medical team members, stayed for duty.

They were concerned that changing places might stress Mendun'er, so in case things got rough, having more people around would make it easier.

After finishing his own work, Chen Ying went to chat with Mendun'er while holding some fresh bamboo.

The big fellow still remembered him, and as soon as they met, he dropped the bamboo he was gnawing on and stretched out his hand from the cage, asking for a hug.

Chen Ying glanced back at the direction of the surveillance room and then opened the iron door and slipped inside.

"Hey, why is Mr. Chen..."

The female doctor abruptly stood up, pointing at the surveillance screen with furrowed brows.

Little Sen was also here, and he leaned closer to the screen without saying a word.

As an employee of the rescue station, he knew that Mendun'er had actively sought help from Chen Ying, but now that the surgery was done, it was hard to say whether Mendun'er would remain as close to Mr. Chen as before.

The hearts of the three people in front of the screen were all in their throats. On the screen, Chen Ying hugged Mendun'er and cuddled and nuzzled it in all sorts of ways.

"Good kid, let me check your wound, does it still hurt?"

He rummaged through Mendun'er's belly and, seeing the obvious scar, felt an unbearable ache in his heart.

"Big Baby, you've really suffered this time. I'll go to the mountains later to get you some wild honey to nourish you."

Buckets of milk, heaps of cornbread, everything must be supplemented with wild honey!

He sat down cross-legged, and Mendun'er lay next to him, constantly pushing its big head into his arms.

"Mew, mew. It hurt, it hurt so much back then, but it doesn't hurt anymore. Still, I don't feel too comfortable."

Hearing Mendun'er's words, Chen Ying hugged its head and soothed it.

"It's okay. Later, I'll prepare some medicine for you to drink, we'll use traditional medicine, and you'll be better soon."

Western medicine is absolutely the first choice during the surgery phase, but in the recovery phase of serious illnesses, traditional medicine can often play a more prominent role.

Chen Ying possessed Level 100 medical skills provided by the system, which included various diagnostic and treatment methods of both Western and traditional Chinese medicine.

"Drink herbal medicine? What's the use of that..." The female doctor muttered displeased in front of the screen; her colleague pulled at her hand, but failed to keep her quiet.

"What can all those herbs and grass of traditional medicine cure? This is a giant panda, we can't let him take risks. I need to consult with the leadership."

Little Sen turned his head to give her a glance, his face expressionless.

He slid back to his own desk, took out a notebook, and started recording the various test results of Mendun'er he had received during the day.

While the electronic version was available on his computer, he preferred to record it again, so he could thoroughly review the information when he had time and be able to respond immediately and appropriately if he encountered a similar situation in the future.

Of course, with the cover of the office partition, he also took the opportunity to send a message to their four-person group.

Duanmu Lin: Seriously, where's all this bias coming from? The country already recognizes traditional veterinary medicine, and she thinks she's better than the experts?

Yin Li: Don't worry about her, Brother Ying knows what's best.

After reading his friends' replies, Little Sen stopped focusing on his phone and started to write down the records diligently.

Meanwhile, the two people in the treatment group had stopped talking, and the atmosphere was slightly tense.

The male doctor watching the surveillance screen couldn't help but sigh to himself, lamenting his bad luck for being teamed up with her today.

And Mr. Chen too, why did he have to talk about traditional medicine in front of her? She was a typical believer in Western medicine only; in her eyes, any treatment method apart from Western medicine was nothing but trickery.

Just then, an additional person appeared in the surveillance, a woman holding a camera.

"Who is she, and how did she get into Panda House?"

Already on edge, the female doctor's anger exploded at the sight of Zhao Manman.
