Chapter 25 Jinya's Late Night Warning

Little Sen had taken over his remaining duties for the day, allowing him to go and comfort Leopard Sister and her cubs.

Chen Ying didn't even have time to change his clothes as he carried the late-night snack into the animal shed.

Leopard Sister had been sprawled lazily on the platform, but when Chen Ying entered the room, she suddenly stood up, took a deep breath, leapt down from the platform, and circled around him twice.

"Roar, where have you been? You reek of tiger!"

Chen Ying, who had handled Tiger poop and spent quite a while in a place where the tiger had urinated and sharpened its claws, was silent momentarily.

"Is the smell really that strong?" he asked.

"Roar, aren't you aware of it at all?" she retorted.

Leopard Sister walked around him one more time, but not noticing any injuries, she quickly dismissed the matter from her mind.

"Roar, I want to go out for a walk. Will you accompany me to see that big dummy?"

"That's fine, but what about Big Baby and Little Baby? Are they coming with us?"

Leopard Sister glanced at the two chubby kids with disdain, but ultimately, her maternal instincts prevailed, and she herded the youngsters out the door.

Before leaving, Chen Ying had called the Panda House to let them know.

These two youngsters weren't like the previous female doctor; upon hearing the news, they asked excitedly if they could get close to Leopard Sister.

Chen Ying didn't dare make promises on behalf of Leopard Sister, but mentioned that they could greet her when she seemed to be in a good mood.

Mendun'er, who had been munching on bamboo and dozing off, suddenly jerked up straight.

Feeling a familiar presence drawing closer, he dropped his half-eaten bamboo and clambered up to the iron bars to peer out at the entrance.

Soon, Chen Ying entered the inner shed with Leopard Sister.

He didn't dare to open the iron bars for them to interact closely; he wasn't ready to test the nerves of every worker at the conservation center.

Even so, the person responsible for monitoring was on edge.

"Roar, how are you doing, big dummy?" she asked.

"Ying ying, you're the dummy. You have cubs and yet someone managed to slice open your belly."

"Roar, mentioning that makes me angry! If I were not still recovering from giving birth, do you think I'd let that thing actually hurt me?"

The two old friends, not having seen each other for a while, sat down face-to-face, talking through the bars.

"Roar, speaking of which, aren't you looking for a mate this year? Seen anyone you like?"

"Ying ying, no! That little girl lied to me, saying there were plenty of high-quality male bears here among the two-legged beasts, but I haven't seen a single one."

On the sidelines, Chen Ying, who had remained invisible and was quietly eating melon seeds, did not expect to overhear such an explosive conversation. He involuntarily looked up at the surveillance camera.

His clearly flabbergasted expression puzzled the monitoring staff.

"What's Dr. Chen implying, giving us the look, looking completely incredulous? Isn't monitoring routine? We're not even blaming him for bringing Leopard Sister inside."

"I feel like Dr. Chen isn't angry, it's more like he's heard some unbelievable news. But does he understand animal language?"

The few young people working overtime laughed.

"No way. You don't really think he's some modern Druid that understands animal language, do you?"

The speaker raised his eyebrows and spread his hands: "Who knows, maybe he does."

That said, he didn't really believe it, so the truth just slipped through their fingers.

Chen Ying withdrew his gaze from the surveillance camera and stroked his chin.

There were not a few giant pandas in their conservation area, but without knowing the distribution, it was also possible that Mendun'er didn't like any of the bears around him.

Wild giant pandas mating with captive ones isn't off the table, but how to go about it? I'd need to think of a way to try it out.

Actually, there have already been successful cases of bringing captive pandas into the wild in our country, and they have even produced healthy male cubs.

But Mendun'er is a female bear, and even the male wild bears look down on her, so would she really take to a captive male bear?

However, it wouldn't hurt to give it a try, right? What if it actually worked out.

What if Mendun'er was simply a bear that cared about looks?

After chatting for a while, Leopard Sister felt it was about time to get active before going to sleep. She gave a perfunctory greeting, rose to her feet, and swished her tail as she left.

"You guys clean up for Mendun'er, I'll head out first."

She gestured to the camera and jogged to catch up with Leopard Sister.

Leopard Sister passed by the red panda Meng Yan's enclosure and play area, she even stopped to take a look.

But Meng Yan had grown bolder lately, or perhaps her wariness had decreased significantly; she continued to sleep soundly with her head covered.

Sauntering over to the area where they had been active before, two chubby cubs were chasing a little wild rabbit – a live wild rabbit!

"Brother Ying, this was caught by Brother Wang from the Forest Station this afternoon. He said it would be perfect for the little leopard's hunting practice."

Duanmu Lin squatted at the gate, with the new ranger Little Deng from next door beside him.

Upon seeing Chen Ying and Leopard Sister approaching, Duanmu Lin pulled Little Deng aside to open the gate and pointed at the palm-sized bunny to explain.

Chen Ying gave Duanmu Lin a speechless look, the little leopard was only so big – was it already starting to hunt live prey?

Look at that. Is this hunting? It's more like they're treating the little rabbit as a playmate.

One big pounce towards it, not even reaching the rabbit before landing with a thud on the ground, rolling over before getting up to start pouncing again. It's not hunting, it's barely sufficient for a cute act.

Seeing Chen Ying and Leopard Sister, Duanmu Lin and Little Deng felt it was inappropriate to keep standing at the gate. They greeted them and ran towards the dormitories.

"I'm going to post this video on my Moments tonight."

Little Deng was very young, a resident of Xiaozhai Village. After finishing high school, he stayed at home to take care of his elderly grandmother and had just recently passed the examination to become a ranger.

At 19, he was still an energetic kid; admiring Chen Ying and Yin Li to no end.

"Brother Duanmu, teach me how to edit videos."

Duanmu Lin patiently showed him how to use a mobile app to edit videos and post them online, also suggesting that he could shoot some videos during his spare time at work and share them online. When he accumulated more followers, it could even help his family sell local products and the like.

Xiaozhai Village is located in the deeper mountains of Jiamu Town, where economic development is very tough. If they could leverage the internet to sell products, it would be beneficial for both Little Deng and Xiaozhai Village.

Chen Ying wouldn't interfere with what they did during their work downtime, as long as they didn't break any rules.

He himself wasn't interested in posting videos. Ever since Duanmu and others joined, even the Rescue station's official account updates were left to Duanmu and Little Sen.

Now, his own account focused on providing educational content, posting articles, answering questions from netizens, or identifying animals in photos sent by netizens to see if they were under state protection or the like.

No sooner had Duanmu and the others left, Chen Ying was planning to find something to confine the little rabbit for temporary care, to facilitate further hunting practice for the little leopards, when a familiar roar came from outside the newly erected wire fence.

"Is that Jinya? Is it in danger?"

He couldn't care less about the little rabbit now; Chen Ying dashed toward the source of the sound.

Leopard Sister stood on a rock, letting out a cautious cry and looking around.

The two little leopards obediently lay down in the bushes, attempting to let the tall grass conceal their bodies.

Chen Ying ran to the wire fence and saw Jinya standing on a rock with a vigilant expression towards the northwest.

The dark shadows flickered, and the night wind blew. Chen Ying could not see what kind of threat was out there.

Just as he was about to inquire with Jinya, the system suddenly popped up with a message.
