Li Wei stood there, panting and dripping with sweat, his eyes glued to the older man who had just arrived. The air seemed to crackle with tension as the mysterious figure lowered his sword, standing at attention. Li Wei's heart raced. What the heck is going on now? First, a battle to the death, then some random person shows up and calls me 'Sectmaster' like I'm some kind of big deal?
The older man, who appeared to be in his late thirties with long silver hair and a calm yet intimidating aura, took a step forward. "I see the Sectmaster is not what I expected." His eyes swept over Li Wei, assessing him with a sharp gaze.
Li Wei scratched the back of his head awkwardly. "Uh, well, you know, I'm still... kind of figuring things out. But hey, you came in just in time, didn't you? What's with the sudden 'Master' thing, huh? Are you some big-shot martial artist or something?"
The older man smiled faintly but said nothing. He then turned to the mysterious figure who had been relentlessly attacking Li Wei. "That's enough. He's not ready yet. But he will be."
The mysterious figure gave a nod and stepped back, lowering his sword. "Understood, Master."
Li Wei stared at the exchange, his brain trying to catch up. "Hold on a second, what's going on here? Who are you, and why'd you stop that... that guy from beating me up?"
The older man regarded him calmly. "I am Yu Zhen, the Master of the Sect you now lead. As for why I stopped... that was a test. You were being tested, Li Wei."
"Wait—what? A test? I'm supposed to pass getting sliced to pieces by some sword-wielding maniac?" Li Wei sputtered. "Do I look like a target dummy to you?"
Yu Zhen's lips curved upward. "No. But you're the Sectmaster now. And part of being a Sectmaster is proving yourself—through combat, through cunning, and most of all, through your ability to survive. You've passed the first test."
Li Wei blinked in confusion. "So I was supposed to survive being attacked? You really know how to make a guy's day, huh?"
"Not survive," Yu Zhen corrected. "Outsmart. You were supposed to outsmart your opponent, survive, and show resilience. And you did."
Li Wei opened his mouth to argue, but then his gaze drifted to the mysterious figure who was now standing quietly in the corner of the courtyard. The man had an aura about him—powerful, unyielding—but now he didn't seem quite so intimidating. Is he just... going to stand there now?
"Look," Li Wei said, rubbing his temples, "I'm starting to get it. Sort of. But this 'Sectmaster' thing? I mean, me as a Sectmaster? How does that even work? I'm just... a guy who can't even use magic properly, and now you're telling me I'm supposed to lead an entire sect?"
Yu Zhen's smile remained. "Yes, Li Wei. You may not possess the strength or power of a true cultivator yet. But what you do have is the potential. You have the will to survive, the wit to outsmart, and the courage to lead. Those are qualities of a great Sectmaster."
Li Wei chuckled nervously. "Yeah, well, if I had those qualities, I wouldn't have spent half the day running from that guy, huh?"
Yu Zhen chuckled as well, his voice deep and warm. "You think running was a mistake?"
Li Wei paused. "Well, yeah, I mean... if I'm supposed to fight, then why was I running?"
"Sometimes, running is the best way to fight," Yu Zhen said sagely. "And sometimes, survival is the greatest victory. Your opponent didn't want to kill you. He wanted to see what you would do."
Li Wei scratched his head. "Okay, I guess that makes sense. I mean, I didn't exactly intend to survive, but I guess my sheer luck helped out."
Yu Zhen gave him a knowing look. "Luck isn't always a mistake, Li Wei. Sometimes it's a sign of something greater. And I think you may just have that 'something.'"
Li Wei, despite his doubts, felt a small glimmer of hope. Maybe I'm not as bad at this Sectmaster thing as I thought? He let out a sigh and glanced up at Yu Zhen. "Alright, fine. But you'll have to teach me how to be a real Sectmaster. I mean, what the heck is even my first step?"
Yu Zhen turned, signaling for Li Wei to follow him. "Your first step is to learn what it means to lead. And that starts with understanding what you have. A Sectmaster's power doesn't lie only in cultivation. It lies in their ability to rally others, to make wise decisions, and to bring their people together."
Li Wei followed him, trying to wrap his mind around the concept. Wise decisions? I can barely decide what to eat for breakfast without messing it up...
As they walked toward the inner sanctum of the sect, Yu Zhen continued. "Your next task is to strengthen your sect. You'll have to recruit disciples, build alliances, and most importantly, grow the sect's influence. And remember this: your Sect's strength is your own strength. The stronger your sect becomes, the stronger you'll be."
Li Wei stopped in his tracks. "Wait—recruit disciples? Like, people I have to train? But I don't even know what I'm doing half the time!"
Yu Zhen turned and smiled warmly. "That's why I'm here. I'll guide you. But you must never forget this: the Sectmaster's greatest strength is the strength of those they lead."
Li Wei took a deep breath, determination flickering in his chest. "Alright. I'll make this work. I'll make the Immortal Dragon Sect the greatest sect in the world—even if I have to do it while tripping over my own feet!"
Yu Zhen laughed softly. "That's the spirit. Now, let's get to work."
