Chapter 11: We're Not Dating!.
The classroom was silent, the only sound audible was the chalk tapping against the blackboard where Professor Wick was writing. His monotone, lifeless voice, along with his dark circles, made it seem like he could collapse from exhaustion at any moment.
Although everyone was already used to taking classes like that.
Bianca wasn't paying attention.
Her gaze drifted now and then to her left, where the row of seats by the window was.
She was staring at an unmistakable smile that belonged to the person who, until recently, had been ruining her social life.
Lux was paying attention to the class, looking straight ahead in silence, without a single worry.
How can he be so calm?!
Bianca wondered in frustration, her furrowed brows revealing her irritation. She glared sideways at the brown-haired boy sitting beside her, smiling without a care.
It was outrageous.
He had just made the entire class believe they were romantically involved.
Every time she looked at him, she felt a mix of anger and embarrassment. Just remembering his words made her blush.
What an idiot!
Bianca thought to herself.
From time to time, Bianca could feel the eyes of some classmates shifting toward her and Lux. She could also hear whispers from the most gossip-loving students in the class—especially the popular girls.
—...Does Bianca have a boyfriend now?—
—He's so handsome!—
Bianca overheard the girls she sometimes hung out with. Not because she liked them, but because they were close to Zelena.
Speaking of Zelena, Bianca could see her best friend out of the corner of her eye, staring at her, upset and disappointed.
Why?
Zelena thought her best friend had kept something important from her.
Not only had she hidden that she had a boyfriend, but after what the new guy said about them knowing each other, Bianca was trying to deny it to her face.
That's what Zelena believed… but the situation was quite different.
—...I have to talk to him… but not here…— Bianca muttered to herself, letting out a sigh as she looked around.
She had to fix the misunderstanding before everything spiraled out of control.
She needed to talk to him about how to solve this mess.
Her thoughts were cut short by the sound of the bell signaling the start of the break.
—That's all for today… if you have questions, wait for our next class…— Professor Wick said to his students as he headed for the door.
—...And if you bother me during break, I'll fail you.— he added with a threat, slamming the door shut.
After the teacher's dramatic exit, the classroom fell into silence. Bianca, thinking this was her chance, stood up from her seat.
—Bianca!— a loud voice called out to her, and she felt a tight grip on her right arm.
Class had just ended, and Zelena was already clinging to her like a bear to a tree.
—Why didn't you say you had a boyfriend?!— another loud voice asked with excitement. Bianca saw the girl with pigtails approach her.
—And he's such a hunk!— another girl with braids exclaimed with jealousy.
Her friends bombarded her with questions about the boy. Bianca could only smile awkwardly, overwhelmed by the situation.
—You've got it all wrong!— Bianca protested, raising her voice, trying to explain, but she was being ignored.
She glanced out of the corner of her eye toward Lux.
He wasn't faring any better.
A large group of boys had surrounded Lux, leaving him no way out.
Some welcomed him to the school, others congratulated him for dating Bianca, and others asked ridiculous and inappropriate questions.
—Do you like sports?— one asked excitedly.
—What was that "thing" you were talking about?— another asked curiously.
—Tell us, Lux, how did you win her heart?— someone behind him questioned.
—Please, share your secret!— begged a boy on his knees, like Lux was a love guru.
This was bad.
Bianca knew that if Lux opened his mouth and told the truth about what happened yesterday, everyone would think he was insane.
His life at this new school would be a nightmare.
And since she knew how people worked, the rumors would hit her too.
—Bianca had to act now!—
—I…— Lux started to open his mouth, ready to speak.
Without thinking twice, Bianca ignored her friends and pushed through the crowd until she reached Lux.
—I'm sorry, guys, but I need to talk to him about something important , in private.— Bianca apologized. Although her smile seemed calm, she was dying of anxiety inside.
She grabbed Lux's arm and started dragging him out of the classroom while everyone watched in silence.
—Something important?— asked one guy, curious.
—In private?— questioned another.
—They're trying to escape!— one of the girls cried out.
—Crap!—
Bianca cursed internally.
They had figured out her plan.
Only one option remained—
Run!
Without hesitation, Bianca grabbed Lux's hand and dragged him through the school hallways.
—Don't let them get away!— Zelena shouted at the top of her lungs, furious at Bianca's actions.
As if it were an order, all their classmates rushed out, chasing the "couple."
Bianca ran desperately, pulling a laughing Lux behind her.
—What's going on?—
—Why are those two running?—
—Is that Bianca?—
—Who's that with her?—
The students from other classes watched from the hallways, curious and confused, unable to make sense of what was happening.
—Come back here!—
—Don't run away!—
—Tell us your love story!—
Bianca's classmates shouted.
—Love story?—
—Does that mean Bianca has a boyfriend now?—
—Noooo! Why?!—
Questions and cries of despair echoed through the school halls.
—We're not dating!— Bianca screamed as she kept running, her cheeks red with embarrassment.
The gossip had started—and it wasn't going to stop.
Bianca's school life would never be the same again.
—They're holding hands while running away!—
—It's confirmed—they're a couple!—
—How romantic!—
The girls cried out dramatically.
Bianca just clenched her jaw in irritation.
She turned right at the next hallway. She figured she'd go somewhere that didn't usually have many people: the school's storage room.
—This way!— Bianca gasped, still dragging Lux, who didn't resist at all.
She opened the storage room door, shoved Lux inside, and slammed it shut behind them, leaving both of them in complete silence.
On the other side of the door, hurried footsteps and loud voices could be heard rushing past.
—Where'd they go?—
—Find them now!—
—Split up and search!—
Once the noise faded, Bianca leaned against the wall, exhausted.
—…This is a disaster…— Bianca said to herself, holding her head in her hands.
She never thought she'd end up running away from her own classmates.
When she looked up, Bianca saw the one responsible for all this. Lux was standing there, smiling at her like nothing had happened.
—Your school is really fun, Bianca.— Lux's cheerful voice echoed in the storage room.
Fun?!
What part of this is fun?!
My suffering?!
She didn't know whether to laugh, cry, or strangle him.
This boy was not good for her mental health, and she knew it.
—Your friends are really lively. You can see it in their eyes.— Lux said, complimenting the others.
—Their eyes?— Bianca asked, confused, and Lux nodded.
—The eyes show more than a smile or an action…— Lux replied sincerely.
—…The eyes reveal a person's true nature…— he continued.
—…That's why, when I saw your eyes… I thought you were the right person.— Lux finished.
Bianca looked at him in silence, unsure of what to say. The atmosphere was slowly becoming strange for her.
—The right person… for what?— Bianca asked, puzzled.
—To create a miracle.—
