The bell rang sharply, its sound echoing across the school compound. Students, still groggy from sleep, began gathering in the quadrangle of their respective hostels. At Levi Hostel, the boys assembled in neat rows, murmuring amongst themselves. The prefect, Obi, stepped forward, his face set with an expression of unusual seriousness.

Clearing his throat, he addressed the group. "I have been instructed to pass this information to you. This morning, there will be no food. We are on a dry fast as directed by the school’s council members. Take your baths and proceed to the chapel immediately

The announcement was met with groans and complaints. Some boys muttered under their breath, their irritation evident. Obi’s sharp gaze silenced any overt rebellion, but dissatisfaction lingered in the air. Similar announcements echoed across the school at other hostels—John Hostel for the boys and Deborah Hostel for the girls.
