Chapter 42

Chris and Roslyn strolled toward their car, parked in the courthouse lot. Alexander's gaze remained fixed on them, his eyes burning with a mix of longing and regret. Tyler, sensing his friend's distress, gently tugged Alexander toward their own vehicle.

But Alexander's attention lingered on Roslyn, his eyes tracing the contours of her face and the soft curve of her smile. He felt an inexplicable pang in his chest, a sense of loss that threatened to consume him.

Just as Roslyn and Chris reached their car, about to slip inside, Alexander's gaze drifted to a truck barreling out of control toward them. Its speed was reckless, its trajectory deadly.

In that split second, Alexander's instincts took over. He sprinted toward Roslyn, his legs pumping furiously as he covered the distance between them. Time seemed to slow, the world narrowing to a singular focus: saving Roslyn.
