"Ivy's eyes locked onto Victor's, her voice barely above a whisper.
"Before our engagement, when you took me ring shopping, I chose a different ring. But on the day of our engagement, it wasn't the one I selected. Why did you change it?"
Victor's gaze softened, his eyes filled with a deep understanding.
"I saw your face that day, Ivy," he began. "You didn't radiate the joy I expected. I knew this engagement wasn't your choice, that you never wanted it."
Ivy's heart skipped a beat.
"But I couldn't bear the thought of hurting you," Victor continued. "The circumstances were beyond our control, but I wanted you to know that you're vital to me."
He paused, his voice filled with emotion.
"The ring on your finger now...it was my mother's."
Ivy's breath caught.
"Your mother's?" she repeated.
Victor nodded.
"Yes. I replaced the original ring with hers because I wanted you to understand how much you mean to me."
Ivy's eyes welled up with tears.
