Hi guys, I'm back.
Just a small mistake in chapter 41: Gaal gave Laxus an Electrike, not an Ampharos.
----
Makarov's expression was heavy as he warned Gaal: "Fairy Law is primarily used to intimidate enemies. Once you cast it, there's no stopping it. It will eradicate those you consider enemies based on your intent. But if there are too many enemies, it will quickly drain your magic power, exhausting your life force. According to records left by the first generation, this spell was a modified version of the 'Law' technique from the Dark Mage Zeref. Its repercussions are severe, it's not something to use lightly."
Gaal was then taken into the Guild Master's room by Makarov, where he taught him the intricacies of casting Fairy Law.
So the battle went on for a long time.
Many mages on the Ishgar Continent were puzzled as to why Grimoire Heart didn't directly attack Fairy Tail, but instead pressured various guilds across the continent and forced Fairy Tail into action.
Given Hades' leftover battle marks in the Rock Mountain Range, they shouldn't be afraid of a Light Guild.
It wasn't until Makarov went to a council meeting that someone raised this question, curious about what sort of trump card Fairy Tail might have.
Makarov then casually hinted at the effect of the superior spell, Fairy Law, letting everyone understand why Grimoire Heart refrained from attacking.
"As long as it's deemed an enemy, it will be erased from the world."
This short statement sent chills down the spines of listeners. How could there be such an outrageous spell? But if it weren't this formidable...
Why hadn't Grimoire Heart attacked Fairy Tail head-on?
This statement not only intimidated Grimoire Heart, but also pacified other magic guilds that had grievances, turning them amicable during that particular meeting.
However, only Makarov knew why Hades, also known as Precht, the Second Master of Fairy Tail, dared not make a frontal attack.
Because before Precht left, he left Lumen Histoire with Fairy Tail. It was probably the decision Precht regretted the most.
Casting Fairy Law required an enormous amount of magic power. While Hades wielded a Dark Magic Source, making him unafraid of Makarov, there was uncertainty because Lumen Histoire had been stored in the guild's basement. Whether it had been moved over the years was unknown.
If a conflict erupted in Magnolia Town, the outcomes were unpredictable. Hades didn't want to take the gamble. Maybe that's why when everyone went to Tenrou Island, Grimoire Heart struck at that time.
In the Guild Master's room.
After understanding the magic's principle, Gaal had a golden light of enlightenment in his palm: "With holy light, one purges darkness. Any target the caster views as an enemy will be utterly wiped out."
Makarov's mouth gaped in astonishment at Gaal: "Your learning speed... just after explaining the principles and setting up the magic circle, you've got it?"
Gaal glanced at the chirping birds on a tree branch outside the window.
In the next moment, the golden light in Gaal's palm expanded, and the bird on the branch outside vanished without a trace. Gaal commented: "It drains a lot of magic power. At least ten times more than regular magic. With the same amount of power, I could conjure a fireball over fifty meters in diameter."
Makarov nodded in affirmation: "That's normal. Light elements, like dark elements, exist only in certain regions. In the natural world, most magic power present consists of the basic five-elemental types. To perform such a powerful upper-class light magic, you have to convert your own magic power into the purest form of light magic, but the conversion ratio is very low."
"That's why after casting Fairy Law, if there are many enemies, it will quickly deplete your magic power and your life force. This conversion isn't merely light elements. It's a ten-to-one ratio, converting to the purest light element, which is quite consuming."
Gaal nodded in agreement: "Indeed. The ratio is too low. Is it possible to create a large conversion array? To cover the entirety of Magnolia Town?"
Makarov was momentarily surprised, as he hadn't considered it before. But then he shook his head: "It's not feasible. Element conversion requires time. Even with a conversion array covering Magnolia Town, it wouldn't be able to supply enough. Hades hasn't attacked because he knows about this consumption. His Dark Magic Source won't sustain it. If his source could counteract Fairy Law, he would have attacked long ago."
Gaal pondered, touching his chin:
"I see..."
Makarov, noticing Gaal's contemplative state, asked in surprise: "You're not seriously thinking about setting up a conversion array, are you?"
Gaal nodded: "How would we know if it's not possible unless we try? People didn't think casting spells was easy until the staff appeared."
Makarov shrugged, signaling no objection: "Smart as you are, experiment if you like. The day after tomorrow, the Magic Council will send representatives. I'll go to the council to negotiate with the representatives from the Balam Alliance. The guild will be under your watch for now. Unless Hades himself attacks, don't recklessly use that magic."
Gaal replied with a helpless smile: "Understood. I'm not looking to sacrifice myself. If they do attack, we can always teleport everyone away."
Satisfied, Makarov left him to his thoughts.
After a brief chat, Gaal left the Guild Master's room, only to be greeted by the loud shouts outside.
You have to admit... the Guild Master's room has superb insulation.
Tracking the noise, Gaal moved towards the sound and opened the guild's back door, finding a crowd gathered by the lakeside cheering on.
Gray stood at the lakeside, smiling smugly at Laxus on the opposite side: "So, what do you think? They're all my partners; no cheating, right?"
Laxus's brow twitched as he pointed at the ten Squirtles behind Gray, roaring in frustration: "Even so, isn't this too much? What's the deal? A brawl?"
Laxus's Electrike looked equally disgruntled, sticking its tongue out at the Squirtles.
With crossed arms, Gray stood confidently, backed by his Squirtles, and unapologetically challenged: "You said they could come as they please. What? Scared?"
Above, the fluttering calls of Pidgey could be heard.
Gaal wore an amused expression, wondering how Gray managed to recruit them. With four Pidgeys circling above, Gaal knew they aimed to target Laxus.
Listening to Gray's taunt, Laxus retorted: "Are you kidding? Bring it on."
With a mischievous grin, Gray pointed authoritatively: "Squirtle! Water Gun!"
The Squirtles puffed their cheeks and sprayed streams of water from their mouths at Laxus from all directions. Some tilted their heads, trying to expand the water's range.
Gaal couldn't help but facepalm; he really needed to give a lesson on Pokémon techniques later.
Laxus sneered, unfazed by water attribute attacks: "When will you learn? Water conducts electricity. Using water-type Magical Beasts, seriously? Thunder Dragon's... Breakdown Fist!"
Crack!
A burst of lightning rang out.
Golden lightning rode the incoming water streams, striking towards the Squirtles.
But the Squirtles, anticipating Laxus's attack, stopped their Water Gun before he could land a punch.
Golden electricity danced among the crisscrossing water jets.
Boom—!!!
Geysers erupted from the distant lake, scattering several meters high, with many fish left floating on the surface.
The trails left by the Squirtles' Water Gun resembled a spider web across the arena, some linking directly to the lake.
Just outside the web's perimeter stood Gray.
Raising an eyebrow, Laxus commented: "Same old tricks. True power differences aren't bridged merely by fancy tactics."
Gray shot back: "This is combat wisdom. What do you know?"
Pressing his left hand against his right, Gray aimed at Laxus and instructed his Pokémon: "Squirtle! Keep up the Water Gun! Pidgey! Distract Electrike! Ice-Make: Floor."
Gray's hands touched the ground, causing the water traces to freeze with jagged ice spikes. Gray remained outside the web, ensuring the electricity would flow into the lake without reaching him.
He then aimed his hands at Laxus: "Ice-Make: Lance!"
A series of frozen lances shot from Gray's hands toward Laxus.
Frowning, Laxus summoned electricity around him: "Lightning Spear!"
Electricity formed into a golden lightning spear in Laxus's right hand, which he threw to pierce the center of Gray's ice lances.
Boom, boom, boom, boom!
Explosions echoed one after another.
Seizing the opportunity, Laxus attempted to close in on Gray, but Gray, aware of Laxus's moves, skillfully maneuvered around the field to prevent a close encounter.
Observing this tedious battle, Gaal shook his head, opting for the sidelines to beckon Erza over.
Responding to Gaal's call, Erza emerged from the crowd, making her way to the back: "Mr. Gaal."
Gaal, with mild exasperation, replied: "No need to be so formal. 'Mr.' is too distant, and I'm not that much older than you."
Yet Erza, showing conviction, persisted with her respect.
With a sigh and a smile, Gaal chose not to argue further and instead inquired: "How are your eyes doing? I noticed you've taken off the eyepatch."
