Chapter 12: The end of him

I hurled myself at the door. My shoulder was throbbing in pain, tears running down my cheeks. I had to help Shadow, I couldn't just be kept in here.

I again went careening at the door. Sharp pain flew up my arms. I would not let this happen. I looked to my desk. I picked up the chair propt neatly at the desk, my thin arms barely able to pick it up and slammed it as hard as I could at the door.

I heard a clanging sound. When I removed the chair I saw that the doorknob had snapped off the door, letting me inside.

I sprinted outside, opening the door. What I saw was horrible. There were regular civilians, running for their lives while those who probably should have been dead chased after them with malicious intent.

But I had to find Shadow, I didn't need to pay any attention to this.

I immediately saw him. Black tendrils or magic flying around him, the magic slashing through the previously dead, shredding them to pieces.

When he saw me, his eyes widened.

"Axel! I thought I told you to stay back!" He roared.

"I couldn't leave you here!"

I started running towards him, my legs using every ounce of energy they had to make it.

I saw someone then running towards Shadow, a man with a gaping wound in his stomach, a machete in his hand already covered in blood.

"Shadow! Look behind you!!!" I screamed.

The man was quick and the scene seemed to play out painfully slow. Shadow looked behind him, but he was unguarded and not prepared.

The man stabbed Shadow, right through the chest.
