"I don't care much for your tone, young lady," Hernan replied, his voice attempting to mask his unease.

"Oh, I'm sorry," Cara said with mock politeness, her gaze piercing. "I didn't realize asking you to tell the truth was offensive."

"What exactly are you insinuating, Cara? Did you come into my office just to insult me?" Hernan shot back, his irritation beginning to seep through.

"No, Sir," Cara replied coolly. "That's not why I came. I just want to know what happened that day, and you're not helping."

Hernan sighed, leaning back in his chair. "Well, since you asked so nicely," he said, his tone laced with sarcasm. "We had some disagreements about where your investigation was heading. I came to the diner that day because I couldn't reach you through normal channels."

"I'm guessing I didn't want to speak to you," Cara interjected, her voice laced with sarcasm.
