88. Chateau Chesney II

Kyle's gaze drifted to Cara's fingers, his expression thoughtful. "There's something I've been meaning to ask you, but it keeps slipping my mind."

Cara glanced up. "Okay, ask me now."

Kyle's eyes lingered on her hands. "Do you still have the engagement ring I gave you? You were wearing it the day you died."

Cara's mind raced. She hadn't thought about the ring since her resurrection, and strangely, no one, not even her mother had mentioned it.

"I haven't seen it. I woke up, and it wasn't there. I regained most of my memories yesterday, but the ring... I don't remember anything about it. Where could it possibly be?" Cara said, a flicker of unease creeping into her voice.

"Don't stress yourself. I'm sure if you check your room, you'll find it. It's a twelve-carat diamond with a gold band—it won't be hard to spot," Kyle reassured her.

'That can't be right. If the ring were in Cara's room, I would have found it by now.'
