And so, the journey of Ibnor in Skyrim comes to its unforeseen conclusion. I know some of you might find this ending, especially the abrupt shift, a little... unacceptable or rushed. Believe me, I understand that feeling, especially when I had originally envisioned a much grander scale: a massive war, Ibnor's eventual ascension to godhood, and his place among the very Divines and Daedric Princes of Tamriel.
However, I had to make the difficult decision to conclude the story here, and for good reason:
1. Navigating the Labyrinth of Lore
Firstly, and perhaps most crucially, I faced a significant challenge with the Elder Scrolls lore. I am a Skyrim player. I never played Morrowind, Oblivion or any other title in the Elder Scroll's fanchise. My knowledge, while growing, simply wasn't deep or comprehensive enough to confidently navigate the intricacies of godhood, the various realms, the Aurbis, or even how to properly categorize complex figures like Vivec. The more I delved into research, the more confused I became about concepts like what constitutes a god, how realms truly function, or where entities like the Psijic Order fit into the grand cosmic design. I realized that to continue down the path of divine ascension without a firm grasp on these elements would risk straying too far from the established lore, potentially butchering the very essence of the Elder Scrolls universe and making the fanfiction unrecognizable. I wanted to stop while the story still made sense within its chosen framework.
2. Battling Burnout
Secondly, and on a more personal note, I was battling burnout. Some of you might have noticed the gaps in chapter uploads, and that was precisely why. The extensive research required, coupled with the demands of crafting a compelling narrative, began to take a toll. I found myself increasingly overwhelmed by the sheer complexity and breadth of the lore I needed to understand. It became clear that pushing forward would compromise the quality of the story and, frankly, my enjoyment of writing it. It had become more of a chore, rather than something I really have fun doing.
3. A First "Production" and Learning Journey
This fanfiction, despite its unexpected ending, has been an incredible learning journey for me. It's my first "production" that I've released to the public, and I've learned so much throughout the process. I didn't truly expect so many of you to follow Ibnor and Harin's adventures to the very end, and your support has been incredibly motivating.
As I've mentioned before, this story was initially a trial run – an experiment, if you will. It became a clusterfuck of elements: adventure, isekai, system mechanics, kingdom building, romance, and so much more. I deliberately tried a little bit of everything, pushing my boundaries and experimenting with different narrative techniques.
Thank you, truly, for accompanying me on this journey. It was filled with its ups and downs, but your readership made it all worthwhile. I'm excited to apply what I've learned here to my other works, and I hope to see you there.
Thank you!
