"Obito, there's been a slight mishap with our plan." Zetsu emerged from the ground beside Obito, his voice calm yet carrying an edge of urgency.
"What kind of mishap?" Surprisingly, the first to respond wasn't Obito but a towering man with bronze skin, a mane of white hair, and a robust frame draped in white robes. His voice was fast and sharp, brimming with fiery impatience.
"Yo! Don't tell me that the Rinnegan ran off! Stupid, ridiculous nonsense!" A loud, rhythmic voice rang out as Killer Bee swaggered forward, his seven swords strapped to his back. With exaggerated gestures, he struck a series of poses.
"Zetsu, what's going on?" Obito asked, cutting through the commotion.
"Good news, actually!" White Zetsu's lighthearted tone was in stark contrast to the mood.
Black Zetsu followed with a darker explanation. "Deidara and Kisame didn't follow our original orders to capture the Four-Tails."
"Instead, Nagato decided to handle it himself."
"A pleasant surprise," Obito murmured, his expression thoughtful. While Nagato's reasons for intervening personally were unclear, it played into their favor. The original plan had required them to attack Amegakure, facing both Uchiha Itachi and the Rain ninja. But now, with Nagato and Konan actively pursuing the Four-Tails, their task became significantly easier—just Nagato, Konan, and the Four-Tails.
"Then let's move!" The Fourth Raikage roared, charging ahead without hesitation. His cloud ninja squad followed immediately, moving with precision and purpose.
This wasn't just any mission for Kumogakure. With the Raikage leading the charge, joined by Killer Bee, Yugito, and a thousand elite ninja, the village made their ambitions clear: the Rinnegan would be theirs.
It was Kumogakure's usual way—take what they wanted by force. The Byakugan incident with Konoha and the raids on smaller nations like the Land of Keys were testament to their unrelenting methods.
...
In the Land of Grass
Nagato and Konan easily located the rampaging Four-Tails. The beast's wild destruction was impossible to miss.
As for the Grass Village? They dared not interfere with a tailed beast's chaos.
"Nagato, there's something strange about the Four-Tails," Konan remarked, her paper wings fluttering softly.
"Agreed," Nagato replied with a curt nod. Tailed beasts going berserk wasn't unusual, but this felt different. The Four-Tails was mindless, erratic, as if its will had been stripped away entirely.
Konan began preparing her usual tactic, using her paper style to create a camouflaged tree for cover. But Nagato raised a hand to stop her. With a single motion, he pressed his hand to the ground, summoning a massive, living tree that quickly enveloped them.
Meanwhile, the Animal Path of the Six Paths of Pain darted ahead, positioning itself near the Four-Tails.
"Summoning Jutsu!" The Animal Path didn't immediately call upon the other Paths. Instead, it summoned a gigantic rhino, a multi-headed hellhound, and a massive bird—all equally monstrous, rivaling the Four-Tails in size.
"ROAR!" The Four-Tails let out an earth-shaking bellow and slammed its massive fists into the hellhound, sending it flying. Then it spewed molten lava, engulfing the beast entirely.
Unfazed, the Four-Tails beat its chest like an enraged gorilla, a display of primal dominance. But the summoned rhino charged at full speed, slamming into the beast and toppling it to the ground.
Then, Nagato's sharp eyes noticed something. The Four-Tails' pupils...
Sharingan.
Shock flickered across his face as he pieced it together. Someone was controlling the Four-Tails. And among the possible suspects, the only one capable of such a feat was none other than Uchiha Madara—the man who claimed to be him.
"Itachi's unlikely," Nagato muttered. "Which leaves Madara."
"But why control the Four-Tails?" Konan asked.
"Stay alert," Nagato warned. "Something about this situation feels... off."
Despite his caution, retreat never crossed his mind. With his newly empowered body, he felt invincible—an unstoppable force.
A god has no need to fear.
...
Meanwhile
The Four-Tails recovered quickly, hurling the rhino aside with brute strength. But as the molten lava cleared, the hellhound reappeared, unscathed. Not only that, it now had three heads instead of one.
The ground trembled under the hound's relentless charge. Overhead, the bird dove sharply, aiming its razor-sharp beak at the Four-Tails' exposed back.
"The Four-Tails isn't much of a challenge," the Animal Path sneered.
"Neither are you," a booming voice retorted from behind.
Before the Animal Path could react, a streak of lightning surged through the air, and then... darkness. Nagato lost all connection to the Animal Path.
"What happened?" Konan asked, her voice tense.
"The Animal Path was destroyed," Nagato admitted, his expression dark. "But it's fine. The other five Paths are here. I'll send them to investigate."
As the remaining Paths of Pain moved out, Obito observed from a distance. The Raikage had destroyed the Animal Path with a single blow, and the Kumo nin were already sealing it. Obito knew better than to give Nagato a chance to resurrect it with the Naraka Path.
With the Animal Path defeated, the summoned creatures vanished. But the Four-Tails—now calm—stood obediently beside Obito. Controlled by his Mangekyo Sharingan, it posed no threat to him.
"Did you memorize the Rinnegan's abilities?" Obito asked the Raikage's group.
The Raikage cracked his knuckles confidently. "Of course. With my speed, even the Deva Path's Shinra Tensei won't matter. I'll kill him during the cooldown."
"Yo! Legendary Rinnegan, ultimate battle, this is my jam!" Killer Bee rapped, striking another pose.
Obito nodded. Their preparation was meticulous. Against the Six Paths of Pain, Nagato wouldn't stand a chance.
"And his partner?" the Raikage asked.
"Leave that one to me."
With that, the swirling vortex of Obito's Kamui engulfed both himself and the Four-Tails, leaving Kumogakure's forces to face Nagato's forces head-on. Obito's true goal, however, lay ahead: locating Nagato's real body and reclaiming the Rinnegan for himself.
