Exaggerating for fun

Sapphire's POV

*Messaging Chloe*

Me: Why didn't you inform me about my sister's little talk with you?

Chloe: She said not to tell you. So I didn't.

Me: You should've. So you're on your way right?

Chloe: Mm-hmm. I have to be there before you Incase your dad tries checking it out.

Me: then be there!

Chloe: chill out. I'm almost at his place. His party wasn't till 3. Why are you on your way now?

Me: because it'd be good of me to help set up instead of just showing up to have fun.

Chloe: ooorrrr.... You wanna hang out with him 😉

Me: Shut up and hurry up.

I quickly put my phone down before I could receive another silly message from her.

We arrived at his place soon enough and it was already 12pm. "The sun's kinda hot, don't you think?" I pointed out, shielding myself from the sun's rays with my white hoodie. Apparently, I chose white so I don't look too mysterious. Although, I was wearing something better underneath for the birthday party.

I observed the address on my phone and the GPS stated that we were in the right place. I took one look at the building to the left of my dad's car and my jaw dropped in awe. Magnus lived in a fricking mansion. He definitely didn't live close to school unlike me which made me ponder why he always walked home with his friends.

"Whoa," Phoebe gasped. "Is this the place?"

I nodded, concealing my hands with the pockets of my hoodie. My dad also looked stunned, probably because he thought Chloe now lived here.

He hopped out of his car, making my nervousness go into full throttle once more. "Thanks, dad. You can go now." I urged.

"Hold on. Relax," he said quickly, his voice displaying excitement. I didn't know why. He cleared his throat and continued, "is this Chloe's new place?"

"Uh... Well..." I almost lost my cool, when Phoebe came to my rescue.

"No it's not, dad. It's her friend's place. She said she wanted to celebrate it in his house."

Thank you, Phoebe. You're actually being useful. I calmed myself down, trying to join in the fib "yeah. She thought his was... Uh, cooler. And... Bigger. Obviously." I said, whispering the obviously.

His eyebrows shot up and he nodded. He seemed to be buying the lie, till Chloe showed up in a taxi.

Oh no.

"Chloe!" My dad called out, waving at her as she slowly approached us. Her eyes met mine which were unwavering like it was boring a whole through hers.

A fake smile spread across her face in her attempt to keep up the act. "Hey, Good afternoon, sir."

"Good afternoon and happy birthday to you."

"Thank you."

"You're throwing your birthday at your cousin's place. His house is really nice, I must say."

"Eh?" She turned to Phoebe and I, and our intense eye contact already gave her the response she needed. "Y-yeah! I have lots of cousins with houses so I was just.... Ya know?"

Phoebe held in a laugh which sounded like a snort but I just buried my head in my hands. At least my dad believed her.

He urged to greet her parents and cousin's but Chloe refused. "They're not... Well, they left me in... Uh... Charge. Yeah... Um," her hesitations, only made my dad more stubborn. "What I mean is. They took my cousin out to get the stuffs for my birthday. A-and I'm just arriving here cuz I was just with them."

My dad's eyebrow raised in confusion and he just accepted her excuses. "Oookaayyy? Well then, I guess I'll be in my way home." He said, settling into his car. "Have fun. I'll come pick you guys up."

"Or we could just go home in a taxi?"

"Alright. Just be home early. At least before 8pm. Okay?"

We all nodded and he started the engine, zooming off into the distance. That was close. So much work just to see a boy? Jeez.

Chloe gestured we head to the door and we followed her. There was silence till she broke it. "Damn. You really should be given a medal for lying."

"Shut the fuck up." With that, we all bursted out laughing.

My sister knocked on the door repeatedly and called out to them instead of just using the doorbell.

I held her in place, urging her to stop being persistent with the noise. "Could you be civilized?"

"Could you let go?" She snapped back, but before Chloe could interfere with our silly problems, the door opened up to reveal a really gorgeous looking girl. Her emerald green eyes complimented her silky smooth black hair. And I mean blaaacck hair. She was tall, and probably older than us from the look she projected. What made my heart jump was the fact that she wore the same outfit as me. A white hoodie and a black jean, except I was wearing sneakers and she was barefooted.

Her voice was smooth, and low pitched giving off aura that was definitely intimidating as she spoke to us with a disapproving glare. "Who are you guys? And why the fuck are you trying to break down my door?"

"H-hey. Sorry about that. You must be related to Magnus. Obviously, since it's your house too. Hehe..." Chloe mentioned, her smile making the situation more awkward than it already is.

"Oh. You guys a friend of his?"

"Yup."

"Alright. But the party hasn't started. You're gonna have to wait."

"Yeah. We just wanted to help out, cuz we're the MVP's," Phoebe chimed in, her voice laced with pride.

I covered her mouth hastily and whispered into her ear, "shut your mouth."

"Come in. He's at the back with his friend so I'll go fetch him. Make yourself comfortable." She said, gesturing for us to sit on the sofa.

The air inside the house was cool due to air conditioners. It was also quiet, except the sounds of two guys laughing in the distance. I also noticed the difference in colors they used for decorating the living room – a mixture of cream, white and a touch of grey on each parts of the room was really nice and calming at this hour. Not to go into interior designing but the house looked comfortable and expensive.

His sister came into the room through the sliding glass doors which led to the backyard, and told us we could head to there too.

We followed her orders, and found ourselves in the backyard. They had an infinity pool with a what looked like a small outdoor bar. It was breath taking.

Magnus and Travis aka Chloe's boyfriend, were having a drink at the outdoor bar. Their eyes met us, and the girl from earlier pointed at them. "Have fun," she said, disappearing into the house.

"A pool!" Phoebe exclaimed. "Can I go in?"

"Relax..."

"Travis? You didn't tell me you were here." Chloe stated, heading towards him as she exchanged pleasantries with Magnus.

Magnus came up to me and I felt my insides doing all sorts of things. And no, I wasn't about to vomit. My heart just couldn't slow down. He greeted Phoebe and me, and she couldn't stop talking about going into the pool.

He chuckled, handing me a cup of pineapple juice. His gaze shifted to my sister, and her eagerness made him grin. "Did you bring a swim suit?"

"Well... No. I didn't expect a pool to be here."

"Me neither," I pointed out.

"Really? I thought I mentioned it in our chat." He said as he searched for our chat on his phone. "Sorry, we could get you guys new ones. I just hit the jackpot after winning a bet against our good man,Travis, over there."

"Yes!" My sister shouted in excitement.

"No... We can't. That's too much."

"C'mon, Sapphire. It's just a little favour. You don't have to repay me."

"Yeah, Sapphire!" Damn, my sister's a pain in the neck. I glanced at her with angry eyes, before facing Magnus. I shook my head in agreement, and I could feel my cheeks turn red.

My sister rubbed her hands together with a sly smile like she was crafting a master plan in a sci-fi movie. "Then it's settled. We're heading to the store." She chuckled, making Magnus and I shrug.
