Text imagination: Magic

Magic:

I could see the dark sky filled with small lights called stars.

They filled me with an unknowable feeling of longing and loneliness.

"The stars are so far away, yet so close to each other."

My words were filled with melancholy and oblivion.

Those stars would never reach each other, yet looked so close.

******

The young man knew of many kinds of magic and had wanted to become a magician.

But he could never exceed in anything, he was below average in everything.

As he was slowly walking home he noticed someone.

"Hey! Are you going home?"

It was his friend of 8 years named Maximilion or Maxi for short.

"Yeah, how about you?"

Maxi had clear yellow eyes which occasionally sparked with electricity.

"Nope! I'm going to the gym to improve my power! You should really join in once in a while."

The young man shook his head lightly.

"No, I'd rather not waste time on something I'm not good at."

Maxi looked at the young man for a while with something akin to pity.

"Alright, see you tomorrow!"

Maxi waved goodbye, and soon he left just as quickly as he appeared.

***********

The young man had reached his house, it wasn't painted and looked more like a hut from a fairy tale.

The door opened with a loud creak, the door was old and worn, but it still did its job, keeping the cold out.

Inside wasn't much better.

The floor creaked wherever he walked and touching the table would give you splinter guaranteed.

The only comforting thing was the candle which he lit with a slight touch.

************

Inside he opened his backpack and pulled out a few books.

He started reading silently with nothing but a candle keeping him company.

But as he was reading something entered the room.

*Creak!*

It couldn't hide well and was quickly identified.

"It's, a cat?"

The young man said with confusion.

And there it was, a simple black cat with black eyes.

It slowly stepped around the room, and someone was looking at it with pity.

**********

The cat was limping.

It was injured, but it ignored the young man.

"Uh, do you want water?"

The young man slowly approached while a small ball of water was created above his hands.

"meow!"

The cat quickly backed away but soon fell over.

"Huh? Are you alright!?"

The young man quickly ran up to the cat and examined it.

Its leg was injured but it continued trying to escape, to run away.

But the young man was faster and caught the cat.

"You should be careful."

The water in his hand slowly cleaned the cats wound and he gave it a bandage.

********

The cat limped around the house, but every time the young man saw the cat, he lifted it up and placed it on an old couch.

Initially the cat immediately tried to jump away but as the young man continued to bring the cat to the couch, the cat got used to sitting on it.

*************

The days passed and school continued.

Eventually the young man got tired of everything and sat down with a tired expression.

"Exams are next week."

He repeated these words absentmindedly as he stared into nothingness.

"Meow."

But then the cat jumped towards him.

Over time it had recovered significantly and could walk around without problems.

"I'll call you black star."

Its eyes reminded him of space.

"I'm quite tired so go to the couch or something."

But the cat didn't budge.

Perhaps it was because it was a cat.

"What did I expect."

But the young man didn't push the cat off.

When there's a cat on your lap all you could do was pet it.

***********

The exams were here.

"Now then, please show us your spells."

The examiners said while looking at students.

One by one everyone showed of magic which was powerful enough to destroy houses.

"Pass."

Now it was his turn.

"You can do it! Just stay calm!"

He heard from the stans.

It was probably Maxi.

Now it was time to focus.

The young man held up a wand and slowly water and fire were released in unison.

*Boom!*

The explosion was large but that was it.

The actual damage it did was miniscule. "

Student, Oliver Willis, meet us later."

The examiner said.

The young man knew he had failed, again.

**********

When he arrived home he silently sat by the broken table.

The candle had been reduced to a stub and no more light could be emitted.

"It was all useless."

All the time spent studying had become nothing.

"What do I do now?"

The young man contemplated but couldn't find a solution.

But as he let his head fall onto the table something touched his leg.

Then it found its way up to his knees.

"Meow."

Then the young man's eyes changed colours and a soft white light was emitted from him.

A light no one had ever seen before.

Something that emitted warmth that wasn't meant to hurt but comfort.

"Thanks for being with me black star."

Two stars had met.
