Hello! Today I'm going to share a spooky experience. I'd like to title it 'The Funeral of Girl Play Black Magic.' The event happened yesterday afternoon while I was playing games on the veranda. Suddenly, my mother walked over and said...
"Pipe, take me to the funeral."
I, who was playing a game, looked up to see my mother, who was now dressed all in black.
"Whose funeral?" I turned to ask my mother.
"It's Aunt Phen's daughter's funeral, remember?"
I found myself furrowing my brows in confusion. Aunt Phen? That name didn't ring a bell at all. Either I'd never heard of her before, or perhaps I'd met her once but couldn't recall. I shrugged it off, not paying much attention. Before heading out to change into a black outfit and started the car to leave home.
It took me ten minutes to reach the destination. Finding a parking spot was a challenge due to the large crowd, so I ended up parking by the roadside. Once parked, I followed the adults into the venue. As soon as I stepped inside, I scanned the surroundings with my eyes. There were guests of all ages, from teenagers to the elderly. If I had to guess, the deceased person must have been well-known in this community.
While I was observing the atmosphere around me, my aunt, who had come with me, nudged me to pay respects to the elders.
"This is Pipe, my daughter. And here are Aunt Phen and Grandma Daeng."
Mother introduced me to Aunt Phen and Aunt Daeng. Aunt Daeng raised her hand to greet me first, then smiled slightly, following the customary manners, unlike Aunt Phen who stood with a lowered head, silent and a weary expression. While I stood listening to the adults talking, I noticed that Aunt Phen looked very disheveled. Her dark complexion was pale, like someone who is sick. Moreover, she stood still, not speaking to anyone, before stubbornly walking out of the conversation circle.
"Sis Phen must be regretful. Just look, losing a child on her birthday again. Oh well, I truly feel sorry for her,"
My aunt spoke while shaking her head slightly. I glanced at her back as she walked upstairs to the second floor of the house. Just as my aunt said, Aunty Phen must be very upset about losing her daughter. It's not surprising for her to be showing those symptoms.
After finishing the conversation with Aunty Daeng, Grandmother instructed the grandchildren to take us to the table before the adults went upstairs to pay their respects at the funeral of Aunty Phen's daughter. As for me, I didn't go up with them because I felt too lazy to do so, and I preferred to stay downstairs and watch over the belongings instead.
Not long after, the adults came back downstairs at the same time as the monks began chanting. After a while, following the completion of the first round of chanting, the host started serving food for everyone to eat.
I'm feeling a bit of a bladder ache suddenly, I said to my mother, who was sitting next to me.
"Mom, where's the bathroom? I need to pee."
My mom looked up from her plate before pointing towards the left side of the house.
"It's on that side of the house. Just walk over there, and you'll find it."
Once I knew the location, I got up from the table and headed straight to the bathroom. Upon arriving, I stood waiting outside the door. While waiting, my gaze swept around until it stopped at the area under the back porch. Suddenly, I saw something black-shaped, resembling a person, walking towards the back of the house. I was about to go and see, but I had to pause because the person who came out of the bathroom called me just in time, which happened to be the person who came out. I brushed aside the thought of investigating and went into the bathroom instead.
After finishing in the bathroom, I returned to my seat at the table, coinciding with the start of the second round of chanting by the monks. While the monks were chanting, my gaze drifted and caught sight of Aunt Pen sitting on the second floor of the house. Although it wasn't very clear, I could see that she was sitting still, her head bowed, not paying homage like everyone else. It was understandable that she might be grieving to the point where she couldn't pay homage or remain silent, but to not talk to anyone at all? In the end, all I could do was speculate. Sometimes, reacting in such a way could be a response to loss, as I've read on the internet.
When the chanting finished, it was time for the event to end, but certainly, there were some people who chose not to leave yet. While waiting, as the adults went to talk to Aunt Red's relatives, I turned to look at the sky outside, which had now turned from blue to black. I sat playing on my phone, waiting for the time to pass, until my grandmother came to find me and said...
"Pipe, go pay respects to sis first."
I glanced up from my phone before turning to ask Grandma.
"Which sis?"
" P'Sorn Daughter of Aunt Pen, Let's pay respects to her first."
In the end, I had to obey my grandmother's command and pay my respects. Come on, it was just paying respects to the corpse, nothing more than that.
As I knelt in the designated area to pay respects to the deceased, one of P'Sorn's friends handed me an incense stick. I accepted it and lit it before bowing. Not knowing what else to say, I silently thought to myself...
'I'm Jim's granddaughter. Not sure if you know me, but I've come to find you.'
As I finished my silent thoughts, I placed the joss stick on the incense burner in front. Just as I was about to raise my hand, there was a sudden scream. I turned to see that the person screaming was one of P'Sorn's friends. I'll refer to her as Bee. And importantly, she seemed to be on the verge of a psychotic episode.
The people around started to stampede before rushing in to help each other catch Bee, who was screaming wildly.
As I was still processing the shocking situation in front of me, I caught a glimpse of something out of the corner of my eye behind the casket. Slowly, I turned to look, and what I saw in front of me left me speechless. It was the image of Aunt Pen, hanging from the crossbeam of the house. Her face was pale, her tongue protruding, her eyes bulging, all fixed on the casket of her daughter.
At that moment, I was so shocked that I let out a scream loud enough to make everyone around turn and look at each other. I turned to one of the uncles nearby, my voice trembling, and pointed towards Aunt Pen's lifeless body.
"Aunt Pen is hanging over there."
As soon as that uncle saw Aunt Pen's figure, he quickly turned to tell others to help lower Aunt Pen's body to the ground. On the other side, while they were bringing Aunt Pen's body down and trying to assist, suddenly, P'B, who had been previously held back, broke free and lunged into the casket, causing Sister Sorn's body to roll out.
And of course, it didn't end there. As P'Sorn's body rolled onto the floor in a chaotic mess, it turned to face me and even seemed to forget to look at me again. In that split second, my whole body tensed up. My limbs felt weak, almost to the point of collapsing to the ground. Other adults who witnessed the event rushed to help restrain Sister Bee, who was flailing before one uncle quickly placed a Buddhist charm around her neck, just before she began screaming uncontrollably and collapsed.
As the situation began to calm down, everyone below gradually gathered around to observe, including Auntie Daeng and my relatives. Auntie Daeng walked straight up to me before asking about the incident.
"what happened?"
Her trembling hand grasped my arm. I turned to look at Auntie Red, alternating between her and the disturbing image before me. At that moment, I was at a loss, unsure if I should tell her everything. But deep down, I was worried about her. Eventually, I took a deep breath and turned to tell Auntie Red the whole story. As expected, when she heard it, she burst into tears and passed out instantly. We had to carry her and lay her down in an open space before attending to her first aid.
While we were attending to Auntie Red's medical needs, one of the uncles walked over to us and began talking. Presumably, he was a relative of P'Sorn. My aunt asked him about the whole incident with a sense of curiosity.
"Ed, what happened in summary?"
Uncle Ed frowned, shook his head, and sighed exhaling heavily.
"I don't know, it's hard to explain. But I think it must be the work of that jerk, P'Sorn. Because if it's not him, then who else could it be?"
Uncle Ad's response left me utterly perplexed. After all, P'Sorn is dead, isn't he? How could she have done it? No matter how much I thought about it, I couldn't come up with any answers. I decided to just stand there quietly and listen to the adults converse in hushed tones.
At that moment, my gaze glance shifted to something on the side of the casket. I blinked, trying to focus my eyes. The image of P'Sorn, sitting on her knees, crying. I was about to walk over but halted when suddenly, a mysterious figure in a black suit emerged beside her. And the man reached out and pinched the hair and pulled P'Sorn's head, pulling her abruptly away.
I was so shocked by what I saw that I stood frozen, not knowing what to do. I'm not afraid of ghosts but encountering something like that for real was just too much to handle.
"Grandma has wake up."
The cries of some people startled me out of my reverie. I turned to see Yaa Daeng, who had just recovered, on the verge of tears again, lamenting for Phi Sorn and Aunt Pen as if she were on the brink of her breaking point. Those around her tried to console her and speak kindly to her, but there seemed to be no sign of her getting better. Yaa Daeng propped herself up and walked straight towards Aunt Pen's lifeless body, with my mother supporting her. She sat down beside Aunt Pen's soulless form, crying and whimpering so loudly that her words were incomprehensible. I watched from a distance; I couldn't help but pity her. Losing a child and then having to endure another tragedy on the same occasion, her mental state seemed shattered.
I glanced over at the casket, and the flashbacks of P'Sorn and the large-bodied man from earlier flashed through my head. Despite everything seeming unbelievable, I think that this had to be the work of that large-bodied man for sure.
I went to find Uncle Ed and immediately recounted what I had seen to him. As soon as I finished telling him, Uncle Ed was visibly shocked. He turned to inform Aunt and another uncle, who I presumed were relatives before that uncle made a call to someone.
Before long, the person we were waiting for arrived. He was a middle-aged man in a white, around fifty to sixty years old, carrying a prayer shawl and accompanied by two younger assistants. Presuming him to be the exorcist, as soon as he stepped up, he scanned the surroundings briefly before walking straight to the front of the casket containing P'Sorn's body and uttered a sentence immediately.
"What did this child do? Why did it come to take lives in this household?"
The exorcist's statement left everyone utterly perplexed. Grandma was starting to recover, she walked over to the exorcist before asking with a trembling voice.
"Who is it and why did they have to take the lives of my child and grandchild?"
The exorcist turned to Grandma Daeng before explaining.
"Your granddaughter did something bad to someone else, so it was followed and now seems very angry, so it came to kill people in your house again."
Upon hearing that, Grandma Daeng was so shocked that she nearly fainted, prompting those standing nearby to quickly rush in to support her and help her sit down before things got worse.
At the same time, the exorcist scanned the surroundings before stopping at the group of friends of P'Sorn. Walking straight towards them, he halted in front of P'B and gazed at her, asking her a question.
"Do you know what your friend has done?"
"I don't know. I really don't know."
P'B kept shaking her head vigorously, and she wouldn't even look at the exorcist. It attitudes like she was afraid of something. Uncle Ed, who was standing at a distance, walked up to join the exorcist before asking her with a tense expression.
"It's not that you know but you're just too afraid to speak, right? Speak up. It'll help Sorn feel better."
"I've already told you I don't know anything. Why do you have to ask me alone?"
P'B began to shout and display an unsatisfied expression, the atmosphere grew tense. Everyone involved started to glance and gossip. Red Grandma approached Bee before speaking with a trembling voice.
"You're a close friend of Sorn, aren't you? Please help us out. Consider my request."
"I SAID I DON'T KNOW!!!"
P'B shouted at Grandma Daeng, the loud voice causing other friends to rush in to stop her. The exorcist took a deep breath before turning to speak to P'B.
"I know you were there that day, the day you and your friends killed someone. If you don't accept responsibility, you're the next one it'll take."
P'B was so shaken and terrified that she couldn't speak at all. She started trembling and breaking point before finally managing to mumble something. In the end, she gave in and recounted everything for everyone to hear.
She recounted that the week before, she and P'Sorn had arranged to meet a woman, let's call her Ella, at a sugarcane field area to clear up matters about his ex-girlfriend. Since P'Sorn had a previous girlfriend and, after being together for over a year, it was evident that the male party was finally having a Cheat on, they decided to break up. Curious to know who this last affair was, P'Sorn asked P'B to investigate. It turned out to be P'A.
P'Sorn then messaged P'A, to accuse and berate her, but P'A denied ever being in a relationship with P'Sorn's ex-girlfriend. However, despite explanations, P'Sorn wouldn't listen, and the argument escalated in the chat to the point of threats, saying something like, "I know where you live. I'll go and kill you until you're dead."
The next day, P'sorn and P'B went to P'A's house but didn't find anyone. Initially, they were about to leave, but P'sorn saw that P'A had a dog, so he stole the dog and sent a threatening message to P'A saying, "Now I'm at your house. I took your dog. If you want it back, come meet me at the sugar cane forest behind the temple."
After sending the messages, both took the stolen dog to wait at the agreed meeting place. While waiting for P'A, the dog became agitated and tried to bite P'Sorn and escape. In frustration, P'Sorn used a piece of sugar cane nearby to beat the dog to death. Then, they left the dog's body in the sugar cane forest.
When P'A arrived, she immediately asked about the dog. P'Sorn replied that they should talk first and then she would return the dog. The conversation revolved around the same issue, and P'A confirmed that he was not involved with P'Sorn's ex-boyfriend. However, no matter how much he explained, P'Sorn didn't believe.
P'A saw that the conversation was not leading anywhere, so she demanded the return of the dog. P'B then revealed the truth that the dog had died and if she wanted it, she could go get it in the sugar cane forest. Upon hearing this, P'A became enraged and accused both P'Sorn and P'B. Naturally, this led to a heated argument. P'Sorn and P'B physically attacked P'A, injuring her severely. Meanwhile, as P'A was crawling away and grabbing something, P'Sorn stepped forward and picked up what turned out to be a tiny rolled metal amulet inscribed with magic words. Enraged, P'Sorn rebuked and spat at the amulet before stomping on it repeatedly until it was destroyed. Then, both fled on a motorcycle.
Two days later, P'Sorn began to show abnormal symptoms. Sometimes she spoke to herself, sometimes she screamed, and at times she cried heavily. This past Saturday, while P'Sorn was at P'B's house, she suddenly ran away before they found her lifeless body hanging from a tree near the field. And that was the entire story that P'B recounted.
Everyone who heard was shocked by why a seemingly composed woman like P'Sorn could commit such a brutal act of murder and even destroy sacred items like the tiny rolled metal amulet inscribed with magic words. They thought that her demise must have been the result of her actions. As for the loss of Aunt Phen, I think it might be because P'A sought revenge for P'Sorn killing the dog that she loved. So, P'A kills P'Sorn's family members because P'Sorn loves her family so much.
After hearing the entire story, the exorcist proceeded to invite a monk and began the ritual. However, the ritual was not smooth at all, as unexpected events occurred during the process. For instance, the sky would suddenly roar, or the fire in the ceremony would extinguish abruptly. The most shocking moment was perhaps when the lid of the casket opened on its own. Nevertheless, the ritual eventually concluded successfully.
The day after the events, I came to offer merit-making for both P'Sorn and Aunt Phen. In my dream, I saw them come to thank me, but they appeared in a rather mushy condition. Nonetheless, I didn't hold onto anything and just told them to go peacefully.
