She's Married

“Actually, you’re right. She does need a doctor. I don’t care how much it costs—find someone skilled.”

“Understood. What’s the issue?”

Right.

It would be better to give the doctor some forewarning.

Calix looked down at Heesoo and answered.

“She can’t speak.”

The innkeeper nodded knowingly, as if he had expected as much.

Calix, without another word, turned and headed toward the room the innkeeper had indicated.

Only after closing the door behind them did Calix pull off his hood.

More than the relief of getting rid of the suffocating garment, his thoughts were elsewhere.

He scanned the room briefly.

It was fairly well-decorated and comfortable.

His eyes landed on the large, plush bed—the only one in the room—and he quickly looked away.

Whenever he stayed in a city, he never booked such luxurious rooms.

He had plenty of money, but he was a fugitive.

Living in excess was something his conscience wouldn’t allow.
