The Distance

“What are you doing just standing there? Let’s go.”

At Calix’s voice, she turned, reluctant.

He pulled back the hood that had covered his face and ran a hand through his bright blond hair, as if shaking off the air he’d just escaped.

“God, I thought I was going to suffocate in there.”

He wasn’t someone who belonged behind those walls.

For a moment, Heesoo found herself wondering again—what exactly did this man do?

Why didn’t he live inside the city? Why did he have to hide his face while he was there?

Why would anyone walk away from safety to choose this place?

They’d spent the night together—and he must’ve liked it.

Because in the end, he hadn’t sold her.

Hadn’t left her behind.

But the thought of having to wander this wilderness again made her head spin.

‘Is he something like a zombie hunter?’

But then... why hide his face?

‘Too handsome for his own good?’

Maybe women chased after him.
