Chapter 2
The clear sound of a wind chime echoed through the air.
Hwayeong, stirred from her slumber by the resonant, gentle chime, smiled faintly.
Her grandmother’s words came to mind: a chime’s clear ring in the breeze was a sign of good fortune.
As she pondered what good news might come her way today, a rough hand shook her shoulder.
“Miss, you have to wake up!”
Unable to bear Hwayeong’s deep, death-like slumber any longer, Sohwa shouted, shaking her shoulder mercilessly.
Lying facedown, Hwayeong waved her hand dismissively.
“Just a little longer... I was up late last night....”
“It’s time for you to attend Hwanghyeon Hall. Her Majesty has summoned all the ladies.”
“So what....”
Just as she was about to question the issue, Hwayeong suddenly remembered where she was—in the royal palace.
She bolted upright.
“What on earth were you doing last night, Miss?”
