Threads of Concern

Upon seeing Hwayeong already awake and sitting upright, she looked surprised.

“Miss, you’re up so early!”

“I wake up early sometimes too. What’s with the brazier?”

“The palace maids brought it. They said it was too cold after the rain and provided this along with some charcoal.”

“Just for this kind of weather? It’s not even THAT cold.”

“It seems people in the capital find even this cold unbearable. The young ladies and servants here have been complaining nonstop.”

“I see... I suppose that makes sense.”

In Hwacheon, they wouldn’t bother lighting fires for such mild weather, but in the capital, it seemed reasonable.

Accepting the explanation, Hwayeong approached the table.

Sohwa placed the brazier down and fetched a basket of charcoal from outside the door, carefully arranging the glowing embers atop the brazier.

“It rained heavily overnight. Since it’s cold and wet, please spend the day quietly indoors, working on your embroidery.”

“Ugh... Do I really have to?”
