Unknown Danger

Jayden turned his head just enough to glance at Swan, a soft smile playing on his lips.

“You’re right,” he said quietly.

They reached the front door of his house.

“I understand what you meant,” he continued, pausing for a beat, “and I’ll try my best to leave my past behind.”

He smiled again—this time with more sincerity.

“Thank you so much!” Swan beamed.

She stepped forward and gave him a quick kiss on the cheek. Almost instantly, a rosy hue bloomed on her face. To sidestep the rising tension, she quickly diverted the moment.

“Don’t ask me to come in today!” she said, almost too quickly. She could already tell he was about to.

Jayden raised an eyebrow, amused. “Why not?”

“Because… well… maybe some other time!” she mumbled, spinning on her heel before she could change her mind. She wasn’t ready—not to meet his mom, not yet. Just the thought made her nerves tingle.

“Okay?” Jayden said with a chuckle. “No problem.”
