Chapter Thirty-Six

*Aiden’s POV*

The pitch-black darkness of the forest swallowed me whole, the only sound was the ominous creak of gnarled trees and the relentless patter of my own feet. A shadow loomed behind me, its form shifting and stretching, a silent specter that mirrored my every move. The distant flicker of light, a beacon in the suffocating darkness, spurred me onward.

A figure emerged from the ethereal glow, a silhouette against the blinding light. A familiar voice, a siren's call, pierced the night. "Aiden!" it cried a desperate plea.

With renewed vigor, I sprinted towards the light, towards the voice, towards the promise of salvation. “Ember!” I yelled, running fast to my love.
