Chapter Forty-Two

"It's fine," I muttered to myself, a feeble attempt to quell the rising panic. "Everything's going to be okay." The words echoed hollowly in my ears, offering little comfort.

A surge of anger replaced the fear. That conniving, deceitful bastard! Aiden was my soulmate, the only man I could ever love. What twisted game was Lucien playing? The thought of marrying him was abhorrent, a nightmare brought to life. I paced the garden, my mind racing, desperately searching for a way out of this situation.

I was trapped. A prisoner in my own life, confined to the gilded cage of Eternium. Lucien held the keys to my freedom, a cruel and capricious jailer. The thought of escaping his grasp seemed increasingly remote, an impossible dream.
