Aiden broke the stillness. "So, were you able to find anything out?" he asked Calix, his tone still flat.
Calix shifted in his seat, his expression a mix of frustration and disappointment. "Yes and no," he began, his voice low. "I didn't want to raise suspicion, so I played the part of a curious student interested in the old lore of Eternium. Some people pointed me towards the village outside Lucien's domain, while others insisted that everything of value had been destroyed." He let out a frustrated sigh, the sound echoing in the quiet room.
Silence reared its ugly little head again. All of us were lost in thought.
I broke the silence, my voice barely audible. "I... I found a book, actually two," I stammered, my words halting and uncertain.
Aiden and Calix exchanged a bewildered look, waiting for me to continue. They yearned for more information, yet were hesitant to pry further, patiently waiting for me to continue in my own time.
