HER EX-HUSBAND

Alaina's POV

"Don't believe him!" I cried, my voice more like a low plea than a confident one. I wanted to throw myself at Nicole, but I couldn't move; I was too tired, too much in disbelief that he was here.

I could feel my heart pounding in my chest as I stood in front of Michael and his grandma. I wasn't prepared for the weight of what was happening. I wanted the ground to open up and swallow me whole.

"Micheal, Grandma…" I whispered, my voice trembling just a little as I took a step toward him. He stood still, eyes wide, his lips parted but silent. I reached for his arm, gripping it desperately. I wasn't thinking about the fact that he and Zoey had kissed; I wasn't thinking about that. Micheal didn't look at me; his grandma didn't either.

"I need you to listen. Nicole is lying. The baby—it's yours. I haven't even been with him for so long, Michael. You have to believe me. Grandma, the baby is Michael's."
