Chapter 61
Alaina's POV
I woke up to excruciating pain. It was a deep, unrelenting ache that spread through my bones. It was as if my whole body had been dried under the sun and then made to stay in a room without any window. I was tired in a way I had never felt. My limbs were trembling, my stomach felt hollow, and there was this emptiness that gnawed at my insides.
It was then I realized I wasn't supposed to feel this empty. There was always something that made me feel whole for the past seven and half months.
My baby.
I turned my head, blinking against the dim light filtering through the cracked wooden walls of where I was confined. The space was small, and it smelt like damp wood and antiseptic. I was still tied down, but I hardly noticed that. The thick rope still bounded me and it made the pain continue, holding my veins like it was attached to my soul.
