Chen Xiong froze, Feng Xian's words cutting through his pride like a knife. His face twisted in rage as he stepped forward, blocking Feng Xian and Gu Nanyuan's path with outstretched arms.
"You're not going anywhere!" Chen Xiong spat. "I'm not done with you yet!"
He rolled up his sleeves, clearly signaling his intent to escalate the confrontation.
Gu Nanyuan, sensing Chen Xiong's volatile energy, tugged at Feng Xian's arm. "Let's just leave him. It's not worth it," she urged softly.
But Feng Xian had no intention of letting the matter fester. Without hesitation, he raised a hand and delivered a sharp, resounding slap to Chen Xiong's face. The crack echoed in the tense air, leaving Chen Xiong clutching his cheek in stunned disbelief.
"You hit me?!" Chen Xiong roared, his voice rising with indignation. "I'll make you regret this!"
Before he could act, Feng Xian struck again, another slap silencing him mid-outburst.
"Enough," Feng Xian said coldly, his gaze icy and commanding. "You seem to have forgotten your place. Perhaps I should remind your father that the Longmen Project is off the table?"
Chen Xiong froze mid-step, the bravado draining from his face. The mention of the project struck fear into him. "What... how do you know about the Longmen Project?" he stammered, his voice trembling.
"I know everything I need to," Feng Xian replied curtly. "Go back to your father and tell him it's canceled."
Chen Xiong's knees buckled, and he dropped to the ground, trembling. "Director Feng, please! I didn't know! I'm sorry, truly sorry!" he begged.
"Get out of my sight," Feng Xian commanded sharply.
Chen Xiong scrambled to his feet, his arrogance utterly shattered as he fled the scene without another word.
Gu Nanyuan stared at Feng Xian, her mouth slightly agape. "What just happened?" she whispered.
Feng Xian gave a faint smirk but didn't respond. In the distance, a man standing near a black sedan discreetly made a call. The Shen Group's representative, who had been observing the scene, spoke into his phone with urgency.
"Boss, we've got a situation. Feng Xian isn't someone to take lightly. He just crushed Chen Xiong without breaking a sweat."
On the other end of the line, Shen Yunnan's voice was cold and calculating. "Sunny Coast is critical to us. I don't care what it takes—deal with him."
The representative hung up, his expression grim as he dialed another number. "Get the team together. Now."

Outside the venue, Feng Xian opened the passenger door to his car, motioning for Gu Nanyuan to get in.
"I can drive myself too!!!" she protested, her voice still shaky.
Feng Xian's expression hardened. "There's no time. Someone's following us. Get in."
Reluctantly, Gu Nanyuan slid into the seat. Feng Xian got behind the wheel, his eyes glancing at the rearview mirror. Two black sedans lurked not far behind them.
"Hold on tight," he instructed calmly.
Without warning, he pressed the accelerator, and the car surged forward. The black sedans quickly gave chase, attempting to box him in from both sides.
Gu Nanyuan clutched the door handle, her knuckles white. "Who are these people?!" she cried, panic evident in her voice.
"Shen Group's thugs," Feng Xian replied evenly, his focus unshaken as he expertly swerved to avoid another attempt to force him off the road.
"Can we even escape them?" Gu Nanyuan asked, her worry deepening.
Feng Xian chuckled, his confidence unwavering. "Relax. As long as I'm driving, they're no match for us."
He executed a sharp turn, drifting skillfully to avoid being cornered. The sedans, however, persisted, closing in with renewed determination. Just as the situation seemed dire, a large truck appeared ahead, blocking the road.
The black sedans, too preoccupied with the chase, didn't notice the obstacle until it was too late. Both vehicles came to a screeching halt, narrowly avoiding a collision.
Feng Xian slowed the car to a manageable speed, glancing in the rearview mirror. "Looks like they're not going anywhere," he said with a faint smile.
Gu Nanyuan's chest heaved as she tried to steady her breathing. She glanced at Feng Xian, her eyes wide with lingering shock. "How did you know the truck would be there?" she asked.
Feng Xian grinned mischievously. "I might've arranged a little surprise for them. You didn't think I'd go into this blind, did you?"
Before she could respond, Feng Xian made a sharp turn onto a secluded mountain road.
"Why are we going this way?" she asked, her voice still tinged with unease.
"Just making sure we're completely safe," he replied calmly.
The car ascended the winding path until they reached the mountain's peak, where Feng Xian finally pulled over. The serene surroundings contrasted sharply with the tension that still lingered in the air.
"We're safe now," he said, leaning back in his seat.
Gu Nanyuan pressed her face into her hands, her usual composure nowhere to be found. Feng Xian watched her silently for a moment before letting out a soft sigh. Without a word, he reached over and gently pulled her into his arms.
Gu Nanyuan froze, startled by the sudden intimacy. Her first instinct was to pull away, but the steady rhythm of his heartbeat and the warmth of his embrace made her pause.
For a brief moment, she allowed herself to let go, sinking into the comfort he offered.
"Just this once," she thought, closing her eyes. "I'll let him hold me."
