Ryu awoke with a jolt, his heart racing and the lingering edges of a dream clinging to his mind like spiderwebs. The Abyssal creature's voice still whispered in his mind, low and menacing: "You cannot defy the Abyss.

He shook the thought out of his mind and stood himself up. It was a rather modest bed, but it served its purpose, for he now felt less stiffer, less cloudy-headed, though uncertainty would not lift.

The soft jingling of dishes and stifled conversation floated up from the lower level told him the rest were already at work. He dressed quickly, hooked Voidfang by his side and went downstairs.
