Liam and Marcus exchanged a split-second glance, barely perceptible, but Alexander caught it. His patience, already fragile, thinned further. His gaze hardened. "Where is her ring?" he repeated, his voice colder this time.
Liam hesitated for just a moment before responding. "It was lost when she was brought to the hospital," he said carefully. "She wasn't wearing it when we found her."
Alexander inhaled sharply, his fists clenching against the arms of the wheelchair. That ring meant everything to Anna. If it was missing, it must have fallen off during the accident. Maybe when the car flipped. Maybe when she was pulled from the wreckage.
Still, something didn't sit right.
But he was too exhausted, too overwhelmed to push further. He exhaled deeply, nodding slowly. "It must have fallen off," he muttered, convincing himself.
