Tanin pushed her chair back, wiping her mouth with a napkin. "Leila, let's go. We're late for work."

 

She grabbed her bag and turned toward the door, determined to leave before Damian could say anything.

 

But this time, he stopped her.

 

Damian reached out and grabbed her wrist—not roughly, but firmly enough to make her pause.

 

"Tanin," he said quietly.

 

Her body stiffened, and she slowly turned to face him.

 

The entire room fell silent.

 

Leila, Dowager Amelia, Lyra, and Antara all exchanged glances before quietly excusing themselves. They knew this conversation had been long overdue.

 

When they were alone, Tanin pulled her wrist out of Damian's grasp.

 

"What do you want?" she asked, her voice laced with bitterness.

 

Damian exhaled. "We need to talk."

 

"There's nothing left to talk about."
