The war was over. Calder was dead, his coalition shattered, and Winter's Crown still stood. But victory did not bring immediate peace. As Damien walked through the ruins of Blackthorne Fortress, the stench of blood and fire filled the air. His soldiers moved through the battlefield, securing prisoners and tending to the wounded.

The cost of war was everywhere. Bodies of fallen men—both enemy and ally—littered the stone pathways. Smoke rose from the wreckage, casting long shadows over the morning sun.

Damien's steel-gray eyes swept across the ruins, his heart heavy. He had fought for this moment, but standing amidst the destruction, he realized that war did not simply end when the enemy fell.

Carys approached, her green eyes tired but steady. "The fortress is secured," she reported. "Most of Calder's commanders are either dead or captured. The rest of his army has surrendered."

Damien nodded. "And our casualties?"
