Chapter 69: I Have a Plan

He took off toward the cohort at supernatural speed, his enhanced leg muscles propelling him faster than any normal human could manage. Behind him, the thunder of hundreds of beasts grew louder, led by a dark knight whose very presence made the demon blood in him roil in recognition of a kindred darkness.

As he ran, a hysterical thought bubbled up through the fear: at least he'd taken care of his business first. Would have been really awkward trying to outrun a horde of beasts while needing to use the bathroom.

Sometimes, Kaden reflected as he sprinted for all he was worth, the universe had a sick sense of humor. All he'd wanted was a quiet moment to himself, and now he was running from what looked like every beast on this side of the planet.

"Note to self," he panted as he ran, demon blood burning through his veins, "next time, just hold it in."
