Chapter 47: Rampaging Dinosaurs
Fanfan was finally buried at the ruins of the broken mountain on the back hill. After burying the coffin, Taro erected a stone tablet. With his finger as a blade, the stone chips flew as he carved the simple inscription: "Grave of Mu Fanfan, erected by Mu Taro."
Taro stood in front of the grave for a long time before finally leaving.
Back at the dojo.
"Master, are you leaving?" Aragon noticed Taro's intent to depart.
"Father..." Yumeko's face was aged, her eyes filled with tears, reluctant to part.
Taro waved his hand and said.
"No need to say more, my decision is made. Fanfan is gone, and I have no more attachments. You two are adults now, you shouldn't need me worrying about you, right? Or... do you really want me to personally see you off, one by one?"
His voice held a trace of bitterness.
"But..." Yumeko's voice was hoarse, tinged with weakness.
Aragon sighed deeply, speechless. He patted Yumeko's arm and gently shook his head. Seeing her husband was also like this, Yumeko fell silent as well.
Taro walked in front of Aragon, supporting this man who now looked even more mature than himself, saying.
"Aragon, you're a good kid! You're even taller than me now! I still remember the foolish scene when you chased me down the mountain all those years ago... Remember, you're my only disciple. The entire future of the Muten school rests on your shoulders... Haha, I feel like I've already entrusted everything to you..." He smiled and shook his head.
"Master." Aragon's eyes reddened, his lips trembling, unable to speak. His life had turned around when he ran down that mountain all those years ago and kowtowed to Taro. Everything he had was given to him by the man standing before him, yet today, it seemed like they were about to part forever.
Taro patted his shoulder and walked over to Yumeko. With his rough hand, he wiped the tears from her face, saying.
"My old girl, what's there to cry about? You're not a child anymore..." He patted her now graying hair and spoke in a complicated tone. "You and Aragon still don't have a child..."
"Father, it's my fault, I can't have children." Yumeko's face fell with a hint of sadness as she spoke of this.
Taro waved his hand and sighed.
"No one can help with that. It's just your fate." He continued. "You two don't have children, so take the disciples of the dojo as your family. With them by your side, you won't be too lonely."
He looked at both Aragon and Yumeko seriously before floating into the air and soaring toward the distant sky. Yumeko and Aragon walked to the door, staring at Taro's receding figure. Aragon murmured.
"Take care, Master..."
Whoosh...
Taro flew through the sky, whistling loudly. Soon, three brightly colored, beautiful birds flew from the horizon, flapping toward him and circling around him. It was as if three brilliant butterflies were playfully fluttering, chirping non-stop.
"Let's go, let's keep wandering the world!" Taro smiled silently, flying as he reached out to play with the three birds.
Suddenly, Taro sensed a familiar presence from the ground below.
Looking down, he was surprised to see the young hunter who had come to the Muten School dojo earlier to ask about visiting Fanfan's grave. Taro's heart stirred, and he descended toward him. The three birds fluttered around him, naturally following suit.
The young hunter was walking along the path, frowning and looking troubled.
"Young man, what's going on?" Taro asked casually.
The young hunter jumped in surprise, looking around. Who had suddenly appeared behind him in this wilderness? Then he saw Taro, who had unknowingly appeared behind him, with three colorful birds perched on his shoulder.
"You're not…?" The young hunter said in surprise, clearly remembering Taro.
"Seems like you're in a bad mood. What happened?" Taro asked, walking closer and motioning for him to follow. "It's on my way. Let's walk together for a bit."
The young hunter sighed with frustration. "I'm in charge of bringing the animal pelts and bones from the village into the city to sell. Who would've thought that, in the blink of an eye, some little thief would sneak and steal them! How am I going to explain this when I get back?"
Taro nodded. "Take it as a lesson. You won't be so careless next time." He didn't think much of the situation. In any society, there were always petty thieves, and with the growing prosperity of Sayuan City, there would naturally be more pickpockets and miscreants.
"Sigh!" The young hunter let out another sigh.
After a while, he turned to Taro and asked, "Uncle, what position do you hold in Muten School?" Although Taro didn't look that old, his aura and appearance made the young hunter casually refer to him as "Uncle."
Taro replied nonchalantly, "I'm just a coach who teaches martial arts." As he spoke, the three birds perched on his shoulders continued to peck at him. Taro slapped them lightly to settle them down.
The young hunter clicked his tongue, realizing that Taro was brushing him off, but he didn't mind. If he didn't want to talk about it, that was fine. He shifted his attention to the birds. "Your birds are really beautiful! Where did you catch them? I've never seen anything like them, even in the big forest near our village!"
"Just happened to come across them…" Taro replied. "Is that your village up ahead?"
The young hunter looked ahead and saw their village in the distance. He nodded grimly. "Yeah, almost there…" He was about to face some trouble.
The two of them quickly neared the village.
Taro immediately sensed something unusual. There was a presence in the village that didn't feel human. As they approached the village gates, a massive non-human figure could be seen lurking there...
"Dinosaurs?! How did this creature end up in our village?!" The young hunter exclaimed in shock. As a hunter, he knew well the terrifying power of these land-bound beasts, especially when it seemed that the one before them was a carnivorous dinosaur!
"Roar!!" The dinosaur let out a thunderous roar at the closed village gates, restlessly stomping on the ground. Its massive, sharp claws dug deep into the earth, leaving cracks in the ground.
The three colorful birds on Taro's shoulder turned their heads left and right, seemingly unaffected by the terrifying roar. Perhaps influenced by Taro's calm demeanor, the birds remained at ease, unconcerned by the deafening sound.
The young hunter hesitated for a moment before biting his lip and shouting at the closed village gates, "Tribe Leader! I'm back! Don't open the gate! I'll draw it away! Whatever you do, do not open the gate!"
Inside the village, the men, women, and children who were fully armed all exchanged glances at the sound from outside. The elderly tribe leader seemed anxious. "Is that Nombi coming back? This is bad! We can't open the gates! If we do, that beast will get in, and our village will be finished!"
The others looked sorrowful, but they all agreed with the tribe leader. Thinking back to the rampaging dinosaur that had suddenly appeared and blocked their village, they'd been stuck in this situation for a long while, unable to get rid of it. If the young hunter could lead it away, that would be the best outcome. However... could the person who tried to lead it away survive? The villagers fell silent.
The young hunter outside had already come to terms with this. He smiled casually, then looked at Taro and said, "Looks like I can make up for the stolen money after all! Ha ha..." Though he laughed, the expression on his face grew more and more serious.
He picked up a stone from the ground, took a deep breath, and with a grunt, hurled it at the restless dinosaur in front of the village gates.
"Thud!" The stone hit the dinosaur's head with a perfect strike, even as the creature's head kept turning with agitation.
The dinosaur, having been struck by a tiny stone thrown by what seemed like an ant, immediately twisted its body and glared in the young hunter's direction. Taro furrowed his brows as he observed the creature. This dinosaur... it seemed a little off.
"Roar!!" As expected, the dinosaur's temper flared. With red eyes, it charged toward the young hunter with terrifying speed, stomping the ground with each step.
